Bought another bike!
05/21/05 at 18:32:41

Just sealed the deal on an '01 VStar 1100 Classic.  It has 5K on it, nary a scratch nor ding. Comes with Cobra straight pipes and has Cobra intake and rejetted to match.  Has windshield and soft leather bags.

It is sweet.  Sounds like a lion roaring, handles incredibly well.  Comfy ride with a big arsed seat.  Factory floor boards and heel-toe shifter.

The image below is some guys bike that I googled up, but it's the same color scheme.  Mine still has a the pillion seat and back.

The Savage was just a little too hard seated for me.  I want something I can ride 400 miles and still be able to sit down.

How do they compare?

Well, out of the hole, the Savage holds it own.  Once rolling, however, the VS1100 stays much smoother feeling, as you'd expect.

Cornering? The VS1100 wins hands down.  The LS650 seemed to have a lurchy kind of feel on tight corners.  the VS1100 follows track like it's on a rail (that's what sold me).  The VS1100 was almost as easy to steer as my old beloved RD350. I was very surprised with that.

Seat? Hah! Even the factory seat on the VS1100 feels like a Lazy-Boy compared to the LS650's fanny muncher.

I'll be selling the LS650 but will remove the GTS seat and offer it here first.  I've also got some never installed ME880s that I'll list here later as well.

In the meantime, I've got to check out a VS1100 forum I found.  Wink  I'd still like to check in here now and then.  Maybe as a  Savage Emeritus?

That's funny man, I've been seriously considering trading mine in on a 1997 Shadow 1100 A.C.E.  Even with all the mods I've done, I can go about 20-25 miles at a time. I used to do Iron Butt type runs all the time on my big bikes...personal best was Spokane Wa to Tijuana Mexico in 36 hours. And no, I didn't ride it back, I couldn't walk right for a week (f'n rigid framed monster).

I'll probably keep the LS for a commuter and get something bigger for the highway. Keep forgetting I'm not a kid anymore.  :'( Savage sure is a fun around town or barhopper though...

I've done something similar, WD.  I have a YZF600 for the highway/freeway, and relegate my two cruisers to in-town stuff.

Sportbike is actually pretty comfortable at high speed, the wind is holding your body up so your weight is off the bars.  Sucks from red light to red light, though.

On the other end, a 350 lb Savage is great between lights, but going 95 is not exactly comfortable.

Need to find a windshield for the GS1000.

I'd settle for the GS1000...or a KZ1000 cop shop special. I've got no business even LOOKING at a repli-racer. I wheelied ths Savage 5 minutes after taking formal possession of it, a rocket bike would be a BAD idea...

WD,   several times I've bowed out of long runs, 'cause  my butt can't take it.

Will I miss the Savage? Not too much. It was fun for the year I had it, but "Change is good!" Grin  The thumper was pretty unique and mondo cool but the VS (I named it "Redbird") was too comfy to pass up.  Plus it can haul the ball and chain if she wants to ride.

BTW, I got the bike for $5k.  Kelly BB is $5.8k.
Plus it has the Loud as H Cobra straight pipes on it.

The seller lives 5 houses up and 2 houses over from me.

Roll Eyes

But at least I stayed metric!

I'm already working on part two of the epic...

Here's an excerpt:

His butt was achin',
His nuts were shakin',
His undies were startin' to spoil...
He pulled over to stop,
Something went "pop".
His rectum was startin' to boil.

More later!

Hey Git, I expect to add a long range bike in the near future but sure won't let either ls650 go - just too much fun for comutes and short runs - so why not keep the it?

Good Idea.

Naw, I'd rather have the $2000
