Another tire question...

Okay, does anyone remember who makes the rear whitewall that will just barely fit the Savage rear wheel/fender package? I can'tfind it in the catalogs for the brands we carry at work. A chopper/bober just doesn't look finished with a blackwall rear tire (at least a 50s style doesn't, and mine is a mostly 50s style). Better not be Maxxis/Cheng Shin...I can get their blackwalls, but only Dunlop 402/404 HD badged whitewalls from my distributor...

Closest I can find at accwhse.com are:

$100.95 Bridgestone Exedra 150/90-15 G702 Whitewall Rear Tire
$71.95 Dunlop D404 150/90H15 Wide White Wall RoyalStar Rear Tire

Will a 150/90-15 fit?  Dunlop's site show the 140/90 that I currently have on to be 5.5-6" width; the 150/90 6-6.25".  I have a quarter inch clearance on the right side of the swingarm, well over three quarters on the left.

I have about 2000 miles on my 140/90-15 D404 and it shows no marks from rubbing anything on the bike as I work the suspension on my daily commute.

I bought the Dunlop D404 150/90H15 whitewall but I won't have time to put it on until June so I still don't know if it will fit. I looked all over the web for a 140/90 whitewall & couldn't find one. I plan on filing down or modifying all the bolts when the wheel's off & cranking up the shock preload. I'm doing a "retro" thing; got fork gators, dropping the bars & I'm looking for a 7" headlight & Sportster muffler. I want to do a solo seat mod like Jon's & maybe get one of those old fashioned finned exhaust flanges like on old thumpers. I took the chrome trim off the head & buffed out the valve covers. If I don't ruin it too badly, I'll post some pics when I'm done.  8)

That'd be 0.250" total over the stock tire's spec,
so that works out to 0.125 (1/8 )" per side more. I have not mounted mine yet, when I do I will send a pic. Wink
