I would love to be able to actually join the Savage Mountain Run, but that's impossible ... and since there are no actual mountains here in eastern Newfoundland (lotsa hills though ...), I'll Ride to the nearby city of Mount Pearl and have my pic taken next to the town sign or in front of City Hall or somethin'!

If there are no mountains around how did Mount Pearl get it's name?
Could you find Pearl and ask her?  Roll Eyes

I'm thinking maybe Mount may not be a noun in that town.

8)Hey Paladin ... actually, Mount Pearl's original name was Glendale ... after Glendale, California where one of the Town's original residents once lived. Grew up in "da Pearl" myself, but not sure how it went from Glendale to Mount Pearl ... ?

Hey
Folks

......I already have my route planned. Although we have no real mountains here, we have sever places named "Mount". I have chosen Kierstead Mountain, which is somewhat of a mountain, with lots of small brooks, and such. A real nice spot. I will get some pictures.

The 11th happens to fall on the weekend of my 40th birthday (UGH!!!! yes I said it), so a couple of friends and i are gonna make it a camping trip. Stay overnight, roughing it, as the chosen place is all wilderness...Now I am all excited. It makes the big 40 a little more bearable...The misses refuses to go camping, so I now  have to see how many beer I can fit in my saddlebags.....LOL...My actual birthday is the 14th, so i will be home then, to do the cake thing with the family. Grin

cheers

Michael

Woohoo!  I'm headed to Cadillac Mountain!  Highest point on the Atlantic seacoast and the first spot in the United States to see the sun certain times of year.

Okay, I give up.  That's seriously flat land.  I guess you'll just have to be creative and surprise us.

What about parking the bike next to the mill, scratch a piece of paper with "Kropatchek mountan" and stick it to the mill wall?   Wink

That would be the highest mountain in the Benelux area!!!  Shocked

Take care,

RW

I guess I'll head to "Welcome Mountain" a non-descript hillside, about 25 miles west in Mineral Wells, Texas that used to have a Welcome sign on it when I was a kid.It is in the middle of the downtown area. One of my ex-Mother-in-laws lived on top of Welcome mountain so it hasn't been too welcoming for me. The only other "mountain" fairly close is Commanche Peak, Glen Rose, Texas and they have built a Nuclear power plant there.
