Actually, I may try to get it made into a patch or embroidered onto my jacket.  I like that logo that GITARZAN posted.  Unfortunately, the one on my 98 was simply gold and black and looked cheesy... kinda like they didn't want to spring for an actual piece of chrome so they glued gold foil on it instead.  For the time being, I've partially removed it and covered the rest with removable/reusable tank decals.  I'll probably finish removing it soon and put an entirely different decal on it.  Hell, if that colorful one is available, it'd be a great replacement.

I've been "working" hard too, but I'm not done with this one.  It is a rendering from a photograph of my gas tank decal.  Just haven't been able to colorize it quite right (hard to do a metallic green)

I don't mind one bit.  I would be curious to know (at least for mine - big single) how/what did you do?  I am experimenting with graphics but am in no way an expert so I am always happy to learn.  Thanks!

I got my training from my 12-y-o daughter, as well as the PaintShopPro-6 graphic editting program.

Your original graphic was cropped from 664 to 650 wide, then the canvas resized to 650x650 to get it square.  I try to work with a picture that is an even multiple of the final size, so that the shrinking does not split pixels.  I then increased/decreased the brightness (forgot which) and increased the contrast since that allows the image to remain recognizable when shrunk.  Finally, after resizing to 65x65 I applied the sharpening and more sharpening and choosed which sharpness to keep.

With a small graphic, sharpness is the primary concern.

I guess that only the 2000 models had this graphic on the tank (well, with a little photoshop help....

The problem that I find with the 2000 graphics is that the lettering and trim is "chrome" foil.  Therefore a photo is a reflection of anything (like me).  Out of "16 million colors" there just isn't "chrome".

What I was able to do was this after some massaging, smoothing, and fussing.  I made the trim a white (hidden on a white background) and the letters a green, but that can be any color.  The 2000 was green or yellow.  This is just a small reduced image but if someone wants the complete jpeg file, I'll be glad to send it.

When photographing reflective items you are forced to observe what is being reflected.  For the tank lettering may I suggest a 2'x3' card painted with a rainbow, held beside you, taking the tank graphic at a slight angle so that it is reflecting the rainbow card?   OR....  Use a picture of a Savage to reflect the bike in the word.
(I would, but I have to deliver a computer, paint a bedroom, clean the garage, etc..)

Sure, but it isn't so much the reflection of the lettering as a shiny painted tank in general.  The photo at the time it was taken was intended to show the bike as it is.  And the only way to photograph chrome items is directly on, or the detail and proportion would have been gone anyway.  The tank isn't flat after all.

Now, maybe I should use a mirror instead.  Brings back memories of the old Pink Floyd album cover, I think.

Anyway, I haven't seen any graphics depicted for any Savages (like yours or mine) that don't say "Big Single" which is what I tried to create.  As you can see here, our particular lettering is difficult at any angle.
