PROJECT: Side-Mount Plate Frame

One thing this site lacks at this time is a section dedicated to projects, where we see documentation and pictures of projects attempted, in progress, and or completed, (successes or failures).  Yes some are included on the Links page, but that leaves us to hunt and peck.

So any time I come accross somebody's individual website housing a project, I will try and share it with you all in this forum, by providing a link to it here.

I've contacted Jon, too.  He's done quite a bit to his Savage.  His can be seen in the top left of the Home page.  I got the idea to mount my plate on the side from him.  I mounted mine on the lower shock bolt, though.  I recently put it back on the tail because a HP told me it needed a light, and I didn't feel like rerouting wire and stuff.  I fought the law, and the law won.

There is a new law in Florida that states no side mounted (vertical plate)   ... unless horizontal.

Is this a grandfather type law?  I see a ton of bikes with this mod.

SavageEddie,

Where did you get that bracket from? I've been trying to find the bracket alone w/o a taillight/lic. plate light for a while!  TIA

I searched EBay with "motorcycle side mount license plate" and came up with 5 or 6 different options. Not that particular bracket, but a few that could be used.

Dunno if the vertical side mounted plate is legal here or not ... have seen a  few around and haven't heard of anyone gettin' a ticket??
Ordered a flat side mount plate bracket off of flea-bay last year only to discover that Nfld. m/c plates are about 25% larger than the standard U.S. plates ... haven't installed yet, may have to mod it to fit this summer ...
That curved one looks really cool though! Cool

The side mounted plate was my very first mod on this bike.

I got the bracket off of ebay maybe 2 years ago for about $15 + shipping and used it for my M50.

I never cared for the flat ones.  The bike has so many curves that the flat side plate looked so much more bolt on afterthought-ish.  The curved ones look custom and compliment the bike's curves, instead of conflicting with them.  I think it's just laying on a shelf in the garage at the moment.
