Bottom mount headlight
02/10/24 at 13:16:24

Yo savages,

I'm interested in mounting a bottom mount headlight, standard type with single 3/8ths fitting.

My inclination is to drill straight into the triple tree between the two stock holes -- however, the underside of the tree has a couple of protrusions I think may get in the way if a clean mounting.

Any suggestions? Has anyone else drilled right in?

Suggest you mount a piece of 3/8'' aluminum on the two thru bolts extending forward. Then you can do whatever suits you without modding the triple clamp.
Worked for me.

Bad you mean a piece 3/8th thick? Extend it out enough in front to mount the headlight then in the back mount it to the two stock holes?

Here is how I have done it in the past.

I used to make these - but lost my affordable machinist and getting new ones made became very expensive.

There is a drawing included in this link if you want to make your own adapter.

I have the parts to make one more complete headlight kit......if you are interested, it is winter and I can probably find the time to complete one more kit that includes the headlight bucket and adapter.

Phily, Yes 3/8" thick alum. extending forward far enough to mouunt your bucket.
I have seen Dave's set-up and it works very well also.

Thanks badwolf,

Dave I appreciate you -- I'm going to try my hand at fabricating a mount for this application but will reach out should things not go as planned.

Its hard to see in this picture but I had just bent a peice of steel bar to connect between those same lower triple bolts and the bottom of the light.  I wanted it to be moved forward out a bit.

I made one like dave's, worked out ok, but I'd like to make another that moves the mount forward rather than up.

I know you're going for a bottom mount headlight, but thought I would mention a pretty easy upgrade I did. I put on a British style 7" bucket from Dime City Cycles using side mount brackets that didn't require dropping the forks.
This definitely pushed it out forward. So much I actually had to trim the brackets to pull it back a bit!
