Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Those things are insane!  I saw one at the dealership a couple weeks ago.  I wanted to sit on it, but didn’t want to buy it if I dropped it!  Like 2.5L motor!

The rides in Texas are not performance based - they are more for sightseeing and getting away from the populated cities and looking at flowers!

If you decide you want to shred some rubber - then come to TN/NC with us.  I seem to scrub off a lot of tire on those roads each summer!

You will not be expected to ride beyond your comfort level - we tend not to break any posted speed limits!

That’s great, Dave.  But if you don’t ride/drive at least 5-10mph over the limit here, the cops think you are stoned, drunk, and or illegal!  Those are the people that get stopped.  Driving the speed limit is a big red flag in Texas! True!  Or you could also get run over!

I agree, Texas drivers tend to be Speedy, they come through here all the time.

Our Texas rides are in the category of “Retired Folks Tours”. 😎 🏍️

Huh

I like ridding 50-65 mph , most of the trouble is sometimes the speed limit is only 30 !  Embarrassed

So

I have a little putt putt bike for those days !  Wink
..................................

I meet a feller on another forum from New Zeeland , we are REALLY the WILD WEST over here !

"Setting of Speed Limits 2017". Ministry of Transport. 21 August 2017.
Other speed limits include:

] On 1 July 1985, the open road speed limit was raised to 100 kilometres per hour (62 mph) and this remains the default speed limit today.

110 km/h – found on selected high-quality motorways and expressways.[8]
90 km/h – used sparingly as a compromise between an 80 km/h and a 100 km/h limit.
80 km/h – generally found on rural access roads, winding rural roads, and limited-access urban arterial roads. Between metrication in 1975[citation needed] and 1985, 80 km/h was the open road limit.[11]
70 km/h – used sparingly as a compromise between a 60 km/h and an 80 km/h limit. Historically it has been used in small country towns, urban fringes (often preceding a change from the open limit to urban limit), or where development is on only one side of the road.
60 km/h – generally found on urban arterial roads, including those through rural townships.
40 km/h – generally found in residential areas. The Land Transport Rule: Setting of Speed Limits 2003 allowed councils to set limits below 50 km/h in urban areas.[12] Since then many councils have set lower limits. For example, Safer Speed Areas were first introduced in Hamilton in 2011 and by 2014 there were 36 of them.[13]
30 km/h – generally found in some city centres with high pedestrian traffic, and since 2023 in selected areas around schools.
20 km/h – when approaching and passing a school bus that has stopped on either side of the road to pick up or set down passengers. This speed limit applies to traffic travelling in both directions. Also applies when passing an accident scene.
10 km/h – Often found in designated locations such as car parks and other places where many vehicles and pedestrians share the road (Shared Zones).

In KY the speed limit on most rural roads is 55mph - that can be reduced when you come to areas with towns or populated areas.

Some of the rural roads in Texas have a posted speed limit of 70mph.  On those rides I constantly feel like I am going to get pulled over and ticketed for speeding - it just seems "unlawfully" fast when you are used to legally riding 15mph slower.

I know you said "rural", which I would define as 2 lane.  And, yes, there are ones that are posted at 70mph

Just for fun:

Or, if you want to pay for a toll road:

We have to compensate for how far away things are!

About 3 years ago I got pulled over by Texas DPS for doing 85 in a 65 (in my truck).  DPS officer asked why I was in such a hurry.  I explained that I had been stuck for miles behind a blue haired old lady doing 60-65 in the left lane riding next to a tractor trailer truck doing 60-65 in the right lane.  When I got the chance, I put my foot down.  DPS asked for my license and went back to his car.  He said, “your clean, I’m giving you a warning ticket, don’t get stopped again in the next 90 days or you will get a ticket”.  Not many DPS are this easy, but it’s not unusual to just get a warning for something less than 25mph over the limit.

Don’t try that in small town.  Those local popo need ticket revenue to pay their salaries.  They’ll sit right on the edge of town where the speed limit drops from 70 to 55 to 45.  They’ll get cha for 3mph over if they are having a bad day.  On a good day, they might tolerate 5mph over.  That’s about it.

Outside of residential neighborhoods and small towns, the general rule of thumb is to drive 5-8mph over the limit to avoid road rage and getting the bird shot at cha.

Ridding for the Ride  vs   Ridding to get to where I need to be .

I much prefer to Ride for the Ride .   Smiley

But

If the passing lane is comprised then I'll be the first one to move over or speed up (to the legal limit) ... and let those folks who need to be somewhere go on their way.   Anything else is just helping Sin enter some one's life so it's against my religion.   Wink

This is what I'm talking about.  Except it's usually local Billy Bob Popo and not Mr. Johnny DPS.  Mr. DPS is usually out there where it's 70mph waiting for a big fish doing 100+.
