Sorta kinda --
if the additive packages are still good, so is the oil.
If not, then not.
Our Savages actually dance to silicate contamination build up (fine dust) which builds up over a year period to the "too much" levels.
Point,
it costs more to test our oil than it would cost to simply buy 2 replacement quarts and an oil filter.
I theorize that an older Savage that consumes over a quart of oil in a summer may be a candidate for continuing on a bit longer, as the new oil that is continually added refreshes the additive packages and thins out the dust contamination.
Especially if it has fine air filtration (greased / oiled media) and magnetic separation of ferrous wear particles in the oil filter cavity .......
