Scooter gathering today
06/24/16 at 17:33:33

Saw around 50 scooters gathered at a motorcycle shop this morning. Once I passed and turned the corner, there were another 50 or so on the road. Must've been two groups. It just looked strange to see that many scooters together.

Yeah, I rode a scooter for a few years and there's a pretty fanatical following.
There were group rides here in Denver all the time. Some great shops and special events, too.
I had a 150cc with a pipe , racing clutch and performance variator. It's thrilling and scary going 70 mph on 10 inch wheels. Put 40k on that bike with barely any issues.

I had a scooter for a while and can honestly say that I've done the ton (100+mph) on a scooter. Of course mine was the Suzuki Burgman 650  Grin

Heh... when is a scooter NOT a scooter any longer?

When I think of scooter I think of moped, vespa, ect...

I saw a "scooter" as big as a gold wing yesterday, thing had to weigh like 800lbs!

I guess if you "step thru" it's a scooter?

I've seen the Ton on my Silver Wing, too
I still think a 'real' moto is more fun
Bill, I think the definition of 'scooter' has morphed a bit over the years, but that's probably the best indicator for now
That GW size scooter was probably a Burgman or S Wing, or maybe the big BMW scooter, not too many maxi's in the US now, the market has dropped on them a bit
I don't think any of them weight 800lb though, my S Wing is like 540, and it's huge

The Burgman 650 is nothing but a crotch rocket with the engine laid flat (for step thru) with an automatic transmission. It is probably the heaviest of the Maxi Scooters at a dry weight of 525lbs. It produces 55hp at 7000rpms and 45ft-lbs of torque at 5000rpms. Funny thing about the Burgman is that the manufacturer data plate says 'motorcycle' but Suzuki sells it as a scooter. The Burgman 650, Honda Silver Wing 600 and the BMW scooter will all do 100+mph. The Maxi Scooter sure isn't like the scooters of old.

These guys looked like total newbs. I don't think a lot of them knew how to ride in a group. Some were just downright dangerous.

Dr pulley does make some cool stuff, sliders for the S Wing can give it better off the line performance AND lower RPM at speed
