Ebay... tons of 'em...
They usually have an adapter to fit 1" bars.. and it don't work too good...
Just jam some spacers or wood shims or anything in there until you get a snug fit...
I've had them on for years, and work pretty good...
Wink...

It's light so when it breaks you can push it somewhere.  Smiley

Love mine. I looked at bikes for over a year before I bought my first Savage. I shopped 600-800 twins, read reviews, looked at prices, mods, parts, etc. etc. I'm old school. My favorite vehicles were my VW's and my '59 Chevy Apache. Carb on top of an engine. This is a simple machine, been built for decades virtually unchanged (for good or bad with the factory issues, but all easily fixable for a few bucks and a Saturday). After 50.00 in exhaust and carb parts it runs like a twin or better around town. Another 35.00 in rattle cans and an ammo box and I have a bike that people gather around in the grocery store parking lot. What more could you ask?

old school, easy to work on, simple basic construction, lightweight, cheap, good lookin'... not the best though

Challenge: name one in the same price range.

I bought the s40 new, obviously I like it, but best bike in 30yrs?  Wink

I got rid of mine for a BMW RT for longer trips and while that's a great bike, I get a little sad when I see a S40 on the road. It was fun to ride and I miss that. I'll have one again someday. By the way, they always get labeled as a great beginners bike, but I'm not sure why. That aren't the easiest bike to ride for someone just starting out.

I think they call it a beginner's bike because it's light and has a low seat.

I researched for 2 weeks before choosing a new bike, since I'm short needed a low seat, wanted belt drive, wanted 450-650cc, no rocket ninja style, jap-made ..
ended up choosing the s40

salesman asked why I wanted a girl's bike  Huh  I made an offer anyway  but ended up going to Ocala, FL where they didn't piss me off  Wink

I'd call the owner of that bike shop and tell him he lost a sale because of that a**hole.  My brother went to a car dealer once with cash in his pocket to buy a Z-240 and because he looked like a Mexican laborer right after he got off work the salesman treated him like crap. My brother went to the manager, flashed his cash and said you just lost a sale because of your salesman and walked out. The salesman was fired on the spot and the manager begged him to buy the car, but he went elsewhere.

And on the list of "Things I coulda said"... Why do I want a girl's bike? Because I don't have to RIDE my p*nis...  Grin

+1 on what's been said, but the bikes I wanted are no longer in production. After some research and searching, I ran across the Savage/S40/LS650. I'm 5'10", 165 lbs, and it fits me perfectly. While riding I feel like I'm "wearing" the bike. It flows with me, and responds to even subtle control efforts. Would I change anything? You bet. #1- The fuel tank is NO PLACE to put the speedometer or idiot lights! That just plain sucks. #2- It really needs a trip odometer. #3- Either fix that useless tool box or just remove it. #4- How about EFI? Seems like everyone is dissatisfied with that carb, always fiddling, hoping for better (me, too). #5- The stock shocks ride like a hardtail. Hope I didn't offend anyone with my frank opinion, but maybe some Zuki engineer will see this and get a clue!
