NOOB S40 OWNER NEEDS A LITTLE HELP.
12/05/08 at 11:27:54

What's up guys, I've been reading the forum for a month or so, just bought an 07' Suzuki S40.....first bike ever....it's a really cool bike.
I've had the bike for about a month, ran over a nail.....I just a little help on how to take the rear tire off. maybe I didn't search hard enough here.

Anyway, I'm an airbrush guy, so here's a few pics to share just to check out.
Thanks! Grin

You'll need to lift the back end somehow.
take the brake cable off.
remove the rear axle.
push the wheel forward and remove the belt off the pulley.  Lately I've been removing the pulley to get the belt off.
you might need to remove the upper belt gaurd, take off front pulley cover, remove 3 mounting bolts, loosen bottom shock mount, then lift gaurd off.
You should be able to pull the wheel back now.

Hi Rockman

I usally put a 4x4 block about 4-5 inches long under the bike with one end against to front of the swing arm and the other on a jack.  Works good for me.

Now something I'll bet you can help me with.  What can I put over my new paint to keep the gas (fumes and such) from making a mess of it?

Well, if it was clear coated with urethane clear, you should be fine. It's the lacqer you have to worry about. Sometimes the gas can cloud the clear. but if you buff it out with rubbing compound......the 3M brand works nice.

I can't load a good picture, so here's the vid of my bike.

So basically I don't need a special tool for the belt back on?
How do I know if it's too loose, or too tight????

Only tool you need are those 2 meat hooks attached to your wrists.
Put the pulley on the wheel then push it all the way forward.  Then thread the belt on.

Those adjusters have locknuts on them, don't mess with them, don't mix them up and you'll be ok.  Don't mix up the spacers either.  Won't have to readjust nothin'.

But in case you do, check the belt tension by twisting the belt mid way on the bottom about 90° by hand for the right tension.

Alignment, there's some very good posts on the subject in the tect section.  My belt squeeked once, I made an adjustment and it squeeked alot.  Tried to get the adjustment back to where I started.  Ended up jacking the rear tire off the ground and spinning it.  Adjusted the one side I messed with until the belt ran in the center.  Viola! stopped squeeking.  Don't mess with it unless you have too.   Grin

You can get the rear off the ground w/o a jack, but you n3eed a block big enough to cram under the swing arm, then stand the bike up & lift the rear tire off the ground. The front of the bike can be tied inside a garage door to hold it up like that. I have a jack, but I just wanted to try this & it works fine. Getting the rear wheel off & back on is not hard at all. Just watch those adjusters. The marks on them wont be visible if they arent put back correctly. Yea, make sure you have the spacers on the axle right, too,Holding everything "Juuuust riight" to line up the slot & the rail on the right side can be a pain, but putting something on the ground to allow you to lift & wobble the wheel helps. A stick or prybar, whatever you have.

no expert on vm carbs here, but in general some folks find relief from backfires by going up on the pilot jet and maybe a larger airjet. then you need to readjust your fuel mix screw leaner.  is that a stock exhaust setup on your machine?
