Title: Homemade Saddle bag supports Post by kk lewi on 04/17/10 at 13:40:08 I got tired of looking for fairly priced saddle bag supports so I went to a local hardware store and just looked around. I found some 1/2" aluminum conduit. ~$2.00 for ten feet. I then borrowed a bender and here's how it came out. Mock up. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_0931.jpg Straighten the wire and each bag needs no more that this much support. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_0938.jpg Let's do it. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_0988.jpg Learning how to use the bender. :D What the heck, cheap and it recycles. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_0994.jpg Getting better. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_0997.jpg This is all I've needed. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_0999.jpg Do it twice! (forgot to put the hacksaw in the pic :/) http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_1001.jpg Needed something really hard I could flatten on. The bar that I use for my bike lifter will work. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_1002.jpg Nice and flat. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_1004.jpg Drill some holes. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_1006.jpg All lined up. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_1007.jpg In place. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_1012-1.jpg Bags on. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_1014-1.jpg Full pic. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/07%20S40/Saddlebag%20supports/IMG_1016.jpg Not too bad. Pain in the ass factor of 4 (1-10). It would be 10x easier with the rear tire removed but I didn't want to go there. Should have at least raised the rear off the ground as I found out when I went to install this. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/IMG_1022.jpg With new fender supports. http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/Saddle%20bag%20supports/IMG_1024.jpg All done! (AGAIN) Phew!! http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af295/xulnaga/Saddle%20bag%20supports/IMG_1030-1.jpg |
