Title: Headlight upgrade Post by Peter Fonda on 06/18/25 at 15:57:05 so I’ve been debating on upgrading my headlight on my 08 s40. I’m just not quite sure what way to go. I do like the looks of the halo lights, but our bikes always have the lights on lol I’ve seen a lot of aftermarket 7” led headlights and assemblies that bolt and mount to the forks, and I’ve even seen just a replacement light itself that goes inside the housing. Has anyone upgraded from the factory 5-3/4” to a 7” ?? How does it look big and goofy ? I’ve been looking around on Amazon mostly as I’ve seen some from 30-120$. Member I’m in Canada so lol the reason I’d like to upgrade it is to be more noticeable and seen by other drivers and people as it seems no one looks or watches for bikers |

Title: Re: Headlight upgrade Post by Dave on 06/23/25 at 04:14:02 I was away for the weekend attending a nieces graduation party....so a slow response was the result. The stock headlight is pretty marginal if you ride at night, and also doesn't provide much help in letting cars see you coming in the daytime. The headlight is small and the filament bulb shines with a color that isn't all that visible in daylight. You can upgrade to an LED pretty easily - that helps some. https://www.lasfit.com/products/h4-9003-hb2-led-headlight-high-low-beam-la-series https://www.lasfit.com/products/h4-led-headlight-bulbs-laair-series Another option is to updrade to a Maurader headlight. It is a bit better than the stock Savage headlight....and you can put an LED in the light. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1458860497 Somebody once made a bracket that could be used on the Suzuki Maurader to mount a center bolt headlight like Harley uses. The issue I had with it was that it offset the headlight forward several inches and I didn't like the look of the headlight sticking out so far. I made a conversion kit for a few years and interest was OK for a while, and Armen even made the center mounts for me that were very affordable - then when he was no longer able to make the mounts the cost of getting a commercial fabricator was excessive and I stopped making the kits. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1495732822 I still have one headlight bucket that has the wiring converted and I would need to make the bracket by hand......or I have provided the dimensions is you want to have the adapter bracket made for you by someone handy with shaping aluminum. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1495732822 Here is Stewmills post on how to install the conversion I made. http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?num=1502309868 I will look and see - but I might gave enough parts to make one more kit available if you want one. I would have to build the adapter by hand. |
Title: Re: Headlight upgrade Post by Dave on 06/23/25 at 04:23:34 Another option is to buy a side mount headlight assembly and some adapters for the fork tubes. This can be done pretty cheaply/easily. |
Title: Re: Headlight upgrade Post by Peter Fonda on 06/23/25 at 15:23:27 Well I have seen some decent ones on Amazon for not to bad of price. Some 7” and even some 5-3/4” ones. Assuming that’s the factory size headlight. This one mounts right on the forks https://a.co/d/5bKwPYv https://a.co/d/878INLD This would likely stand out during the day being it’s a blue LED halo https://a.co/d/5MPn4GC I would like to keep the chrome housing though, I kind of like the look of the chrome housing over having a black bucket and black light. |

Title: Re: Headlight upgrade Post by ThumperPaul on 06/27/25 at 12:24:47 Measure it, but I think it's 5.75". If you like the stock chrome housing, why not go with one of Dave's suggestions - just change the bulb to LED. It's an H4 bulb. Here's a $12 option. A small investment to give it a try. https://www.ebay.com/itm/126063078290?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D1110006%26algo%3DHOMESPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D288102%26meid%3Dc8e2d6c6e72e44d0a321e2aedcf5ee68%26pid%3D101875%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D386984414965%26itm%3D126063078290%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D0%26pg%3D2332490%26algv%3DSimVIDwebV3WithCPCExpansionEmbeddingSearchQuerySemanticBroadMatchSingularityRecallReplaceKnnV4WithVectorDbNsOptHotPlRecallCIICentroidCoviewCPCAuto%26brand%3DCHUSYYRAY&_trksid=p2332490.c101875.m1851&itmprp=cksum%3A126063078290c8e2d6c6e72e44d0a321e2aedcf5ee68%7Cenc%3AAQAKAAABgG96wQ16jds4VFcrhy1F3d4mbwZUJI9Fs%252BgdXYAHIzlX2e3YaNh7x%252BEnKA3G%252BCqSl1Xn4McfcWFK1GytmS2qxJ87mtE8Gm3iR1Ja4WBwh0hNHJrJx3Ki5mp04ow4CO7lP%252BooCybZDDU%252BbbSwmg7CbTin%252BBzBzbCYVnbjvyQAHu6--HI4MB7SvJl5IJqlyvomgoLMlgT6qAJzX0SANJhty2eYz3oDamPmJaAU9hV5U0l%252FAZgZ4qt3RMg3ORmJEFrMMZCOQwyLfVR9GKYL4jWlOIA8Nomvcv4fWRQzjjFTHUo7wEjhzNjJNWFDiTfCXNm%252BTZtzEJ1XnacQafNUURlA7j%252BH1Ylt5h3kwOvP0f1dRTGYHnWt%252BV6001GHlQFPschWsiUSa%252B%252FKYtcUCAHOjfen5vi%252B7OYanVN1xxYI2WhihYuH7xj3hvdpk2%252FVVbaFm0kyZ4XNFH1UR%252F9KpfsRXVR%252FMgynbwJ9nu2ULpJSRFwpNJ0R8UaTWlLRaVwN4%252B7c8A%252FrqQ%253D%253D%7Campid%3APL_CLK%7Cclp%3A2332490&itmmeta=01JYSD0T5F4G8XEW2SYEFXSWY0 |
Title: Re: Headlight upgrade Post by Peter Fonda on 06/27/25 at 12:58:52 Ya I’ve been kind of debating that as well, but If im gonna pay 20$ or so for just a light alone. Why not spend a few extra bucks for an entire led light assembly with the halo light that’s always liked too. Would make more sense doing that wouldn’t it ? Getting a brighter bulb but also a halo like as I like the looks of them |
