Title: Shop Tips-winter work!
Post by zipidachimp on 11/14/17 at 21:37:28

Walking through a home store, spotted a stack of glossy 24x24 ceramic tiles. Ran over to grab a steel yardstick, checked corner to corner, edge to edge, this sucker was FLAT! $7.00 !  Glued it to a 3/4" piece of MDF, got myself a shop surface plate for $10.00!!!
Maybe not lab grade, but a good shop grade. Then blew a wad on blocks, squares and gauges.
Cheers! 8-)

More as a means of measuring stuff. Not just for bikes, I also do woodwork.
Got any tips to pass along? 8-)

I have a sheet of glass a tad smaller than that , it came off the front of a old tube type TV. I use it to check heads & cases for trueness and with some super fine sand paper & water I can wet sand to remove imperfections or high spots. It's about 1/4" thick tempered glass , had it for thirty years or so.

Glass is good!  Anyway, it's nice to have a very flat surface in a shop! Cheers!  8-)
