Title: I like words, I have Lots of words, I have
Post by justin_o_guy2 on 07/10/16 at 06:06:34

The Best words,

Okay, I stole some of Those words from the Donald...

Anyway, I recently saw
On fleek
And hadda go look it up. Today I found this article, a study of words that are just sprouting up and there are maps showing the origin, and rate of use and where the word is being used.

On Fleek origin, and the girl who first used it.

I didn't want the whole article. IDK how it copied and pasted the whole thing,, sorry.

If you want the links and maps, click

## #########
You can see, for example, how on fleek exploded almost simultaneously across the country last year. The phrase, which roughly translates to perfect or on point, was a linguistic surprise hit. It didn’t start with a celebrity or brand trying to coin a new phrase. What set it off was Kayla Newman, a not-yet-famous Vine user, saying, “Finna get crunk. Eyebrows on fleek.”
From there it took off, fast. On fleek got picked up by IHOP, Taco Bell, and Kim Kardashian. Now it is fully in the lexicon, used regularly on Twitter as though it existed for many years, not just one. It is fundamentally a borderless word, native to the internet.

When I saw how huge it was I modified it..I was intrigued by the words and origins. I hope others will be.

Apparently you can just make up a word, give it your own definition and people will treat it as something real and start using it? What the heck is "on fleek"? It's not even a derivation of anything (like "amirite" or "bruuh").

Yeah, string letters together, announce the meaning..
Motspur, the wheel on the grocery cart that Will Not point the direction you want to go.

That, my friend, is post modernism
Along with redefining words to mean basically anything you want them to mean, and redefining reality to match up with your own preconceived notions
as well as conventional wisdom (someone's opinion, + group consensus) trumping empirical evidence

When something is so gross that it causes you to gag and be nauseous.......gagnauseous!  :-/

Ah yes, the millennial habit of making new words for things we already have words for, because, y'know, reasons (mainly so they can convince themselves they made a new thing)

A couple of made up words from my house:

Slurbid: the quality of the water that comes out of your winter surf boots after a session. a mixture of seawater, toe jam, old skin cells and whatever other crap is in there. The actual water mix is called slurbus and it could have a slurbidity factor.

Cluckle. A seatbelt buckle. Thanks, 8 YO daughter xx i love you.

My daughter came up with "hopgrasser" and "hosispital" when she was a baby. Typical baby talk I guess. She'll be 18 in a few months but my mother still laughs about it!

I actually 'got' one of my young co workers
He told a medium funny joke, and with much self control, I deadpanned at him and said 'Lol' nor spelling it, saying it like a word
He looked like 'wut?'

I read a story about an older woman that wasn't up to speed on the text slang.  A family member died, and when she sent the family a card she put "LOL" with her signature.......she thought it meant "Lots of Love".

Years ago,.. we had a BS session at work, where we all made up new cuss words...
One of them was, "Chief Gates!"... (kinda' like "Holy Cow!")...
The thought came from a punk album with a reference to the then police chief of LA...
...about 6 months later it showed up on a "Roseanne" sitcom episode...

Another one I liked was a "wad",...(kinda' like a "jerk")...
... or, a double-wad... for a real jerk...
It refers to nothing, but sounds nasty... ;D

We had one in high school that was named HOGSPANJINE. I won't tell you what it stands for but it sounds dirty too. It's not.  ;D

Off topic:
The "bad guy" in Shrek is named "f***wad" but they changed it to be a little more family friendly and unnoticeable to the younger children. It was an inside joke.
