Title: numb butt
Post by Matt_greatlakesstate on 06/27/16 at 14:57:01

Anybody use a pad or cushion like and airhawk on their savage? I am numb after about an hour riding. I did 700 miles in a weekend last year and it bout killed me lol. Just looking for a solution that won't break the bank

Sure, lots of people use an air hawk.  I use a sheep skin cover from alaskaleather.com.

Best regards,

Cushion or not, you really should stop and get off every hour or so. BTW, I'm guilty of not following my own advice!

I have an Airhawk, and it does help somewhat, The reality is that, the S40/Savage is an Ar se riveter.

+1 on the sheepskin from alaskaleather. I have that combined with modified seat foam and it's much better, and cool even in hot Alabama summer weather.

EDIT to add picture.  Here's what the black alaskaleather cover looks like:

I have an air hawk also and it helps a lot. Be aware though it takes a lot of tries to get the air pressure in it just right. It is a lot less air than you would think. About 100 to 120 miles max and I need to get off to rest my butt anyway.

Now you know why Suzuki never felt the need for a bigger tank... :-?

I modified a Harley Softail seat to sit on , then added Floorboards !  ;)

The seat mod don't take any welding , if you can wrap a Christmas package and have a "T-50 " stapler then  you can do it .

;)

Stew, glad to see your sheepskin still looks unmolested [ch55357][ch56833]

I'm thinking about buying an Airhawk pad for my 2009 S40 and am wondering which model is the right one for my stock seat. Any advice?

I brought the medium sized one from memory. Best go to the Air Hawk website to make sure of the sizing. There are two quality grades, and I brought the lesser one off an EBAY seller for less than Air Hawks retail.

Thanks for the suggestions!

In the interim, I called Air Hawk's customer service and they suggested the newer model Air Hawk R in the small size (11" x 11") saying that the larger one (14" x 14") would be too large. Since the dimensions of the driver portion of my stock seat is 12" x 12", I'm inclined to follow their suggestion.

Reading more here on SuzukiSavage.com, however, I'm also considering a small sheepskin buttpad from alaskaleathers.com for about half the price. It seems popular here. Any thoughts on the relative merits of the two?

I have mentioned this several times, but don't think anyone else used it. I put 1 1/2" of memory foam on top of the original eqipment foam and recovered it. It came from a twin bed WalMart mattress cover--about $30. then I used the left over foam for every little project I could. Took me 3 or 4 years to use it all.  :)
