I have an '86 engine and am replacing the starter gear. I can pick up a newer cover so I don't have to machine my old one to accomodate the new shaft length. Are they universal otherwise (stator, bolt patterns, gaskets etc.)

Thank God for design consistency! Off to the junkyard to see if they'll swap covers with me. :)
