I would like to point out that I follow the local news here and regularly read in the news that America is exercising severe intimidation on both Europe and the Netherlands. It concerns countermeasures that are outright accompanied by threatening language and the undoing of existing measures.
I wonder how many people in America are aware of that.
All attempts by Europe to become less dependent on America are being punished severely. China is no different, and Russia is waging war throughout Europe by means of cyberattacks and actual attacks.
It sounds a bit dramatic when I say this, but that is the situation here at the moment.
Our industry is under enormous pressure. High energy costs, cheap imports, European climate regulations, and international competition are making production increasingly difficult. and there is a large outflow of high-tech machines abroad due to the bankruptcy of suppliers to bigger industry. Electricity prices have risen by 30% this month. Our aluminum and steel production are in great danger of disappearing.
Things are not looking great at the moment and Rubio's speech is not intended to be supportive. It is intended as a command for further surrender to America.
Fair points but I think you’re missing the bigger message which is, as was said by a previous President, the US is a shining light on the hill. I still believe that to be true.
The policies this administration are pursuing aren’t meant to drive a wedge between legitimate governments who are pursuing peace and prosperity for their peoples. America is not looking for everyone to surrender. Dismantle the leadership of Iran? Yes, absolutely. Who could possibly argue against that. As they say, if you wanna make a omelette, you have to break some eggs.
And the tariffs are Trump‘s attempt to level the playing field as he sees it. I don’t agree with all those tariffs, but I certainly agree. Tariffs have a role to play and they forced some counter proposals.
What we’re doing now is far better in the long run than previous administrations who essentially forgot that a strong America is good for the entire globe.
