I see the IRC GS-18 is the stock tire. Is that true for all years , Mine is a 2005 s40 and that's what I want. That's the one , right? Thanks!

The IRC is not a great tire.....and the rear 140/80-15 is a weird size that is very hard to find.

If you want a rear tire size that is almost identical to the original but gives you far more choices in brands - go with a 130/90-15 tire.  It is almost identical in size to the original and works great on the Savage.

Some folks prefer more meat on the rear tire and run a 140/90-15.  It is a larger diameter tire and weighs more than the stock tire.  That added diameter and helps to make the speedometer more accurate - but the extra weight slows down acceleration a little bit, and helps with straight line stability at the loss of a small amount of quick handling.

The front 100/90-19 is readily available from a lot of tire brands and models.

My favorite affordable tire that gives good performance and decent tread wear is the Shinko 230 Tourmaster.  It is very reasonably priced and handles well in the dry or wet, and it lasts 8,000 - 10,000 miles for most folks.

If you ride a lot of miles you can get the Michelin Commander and it can last 20,000 miles - however that tire is a bit hard and it works great in the dry....but is a bit slippery on wet roads. (It is an expensive tire - but it may be worth the cost if you take a lot of long trips).

Thanks for responding Dave. I'm having the tires put on . What size shinko or dunlaps would allow easiest installation with no adjustments of the suspension? Thanks!!

I ordered shinko with the suggestion you made Dave for the rear, 130/90-15, and the front the same size as the stock. Is that correct? I forgot to mention  230 tourmaster . But I told them the size you mentioned and they ordered a cruiser tire. I cant believe I overlooked that. I think they ordered an sr734. Does it matter that its tubeless?. Thanks!

The rear tires should be 130/90-15, and the front should be 100/90-19.

The tubeless tires are fine - however they will be mounted with a tube in them as the spoked wheel requires it.

I have no experience with the SR734......it will fit the bike and likely work OK.

I prefer the more modern tread with fewer grooves as it helps to eliminate cupping and uneven wear, and it is a quiet tire.  Some of those tires with a lot of grooves can make a lot of noise on some types of pavement.  (The front tire on my Sport Touring bike sounds like my engine valves are ticking on some pavement surfaces....it is annoying).  The Bridgestone BT46 is a great tire and I will likely go back to it on my next pair on m Savage' Cafe.....but the angled lugs on the sides wear uneven and when you lean over into a curve the tire makes a bit of a howling wail.

If they screwed up....see if they can give you a price break for their mistake - or have them send it back and get you the one you wanted.

I did get a 150/80 bridgestone as a rear tire! Becuse there was no 140/80!
And then "people" tells me, dont go bigger becuse it tends to hit the nuts and bolts in the rear fender! They are probably right.. and Im not going to try it out! Cool

There are folks who modify the fender bolts and jam a 150/80 tire on the bike - the current fad for the visual look of a huge back tire is their goal.

The tire is really just too big for the Savage and it's 30 HP - the extra weight and width will make the bike slower to accelerate and also reduce the cornering ability.....a 150 tire is just to wide for the stock 2.5" wide rim.

I had a 110/80 on the rear of  my Cafe bike for a while.....it looked pretty skinny but handled just fine.  It proved that you don't need to have a wide tire on a Savage.

Im totaly on your side, but it was my workshop that put on the 150/80 and it havent hit any nuts yet! And then, who knows if you have 150/140/130.. only you self, nobody els care! The same with cornering ability, Im not that fast cornering guy.. and this bike isnt buildt to be a racing bike, its a cruiser.. the type of riding style I like!
And then mayby my Bridgestone Exedra Max tyres is cruiser tyres? They actualy have groves.. you know, if the road is wet! :'(

Dave made a great recommendation. The shinko 230 is a great tire for the S40. Even the slightly cheaper Shinko 712 is very good for this light bike. The SR734 is also a decent tire, that is what was on my Honday when I first bought it. I did however switch to 230's once the SR's wore out. Next time you need tires for the bike ask for either the 712 or the 230, I think you will like them better. The tire seller may recommend the shinko 777, but that is overkill for the light S40.
