Vacuum Diaphram Assembly for Mikuni Carb
06/10/26 at 16:03:38

I discovered a tiny hole in the diaphragm on my carb (the big CV vacuum diaphragm that opens the main jet). I patched the tiny hole with RTV sealant and it seemed to work. However, the bike will run fine for a couple days, then when I go to start it, it will idle but not rev up. You can spray starting fluid into the air box and it will sing no problem. Today, it did the same thing...won't rev. I pulled the boot off the air box side of the carb and manually lifted the diaphram/CV tube assembly multiple times. You can hear it "whoosh" and it does fall down immediately. After this, the bike fired right up and revved up no problem. I could feel the diaphragm assembly moving up and down when I reached my finger in as the bike was running. I'm assuming that the repaired diaphragm is still a problem. My question is: what are you guys doing to replace these? I like to stick with OEM parts but I'm having some trouble with the $250 price tag for an OEM diaphragm. I see you can get just the diaphragm on eBay for around $45 but it is an aftermarket diaphragm. Please let me know. Thanks!

I have pondered a bit on how to change that diaphragm.  Seems to have some sort of plastic retaining ring that pinches the diaphragm.  StripesNPipes, you may be the first to attack the procedure.

Carb kits are a BIG problem with these bikes.  There are a whole lot of bogus kits out there.  I tested a PUDA kit awhile back and it proved to be a good kit.  It comes with a new slide diaphragm and also a new TEV diaphragm.  The PUDA kit was a good kit at a reasonable price.  Hope it is still available.  This old post has all the details on bogus kits and the PUDA kit from Amazon.   If you change that diaphragm let us know how it goes.  Good luck.
