Another great piece from this guy. Gerrymandering creates safe districts but seems you could create a computer simulation that takes the population and the area of the state into account and creates squares as a starting point for each district. The squares are adjusted as little as possible but where necessary to equal the number of representatives based on the population. I looked up and yes that’s been tried, and there are many exceptions that there are rules, but it seems like it’s a starting point.
Cory Bush, the lunatic, won a seat in Congress in St. Louis in 2020, but the district boundaries changed in 2022. and she still won again. I know this because my sister’s district switched, and Corey Bush became her congresswoman. No one in the neighborhood was happy because this was at the height of her lunacy. I think the district changed enough that by the next election, she had to show value which she had nothing to offer and lost. And the district boundary not changed in 2022, it’s entirely possible she would’ve won again.
