He has not been dead for a day until the next day. So, dying on Friday means Saturday is 1 day later. Sunday is 2 days later. In order to make it mathematically possible, he either had to die on Thursday or he had to rise on Monday. They were already using the Roman calender, so they should have known.
Idiomatic expressions lead to this type if argument when we insist our current language is equal to the language used in historical text. If anything Jesus lied when he said "Three days and three nights" specifically.
Hebrew literature historically does not agree with "He has not been dead for a day until the next day.", instead they write that Friday is day 1, as in he was dead on Friday, not dead for a complete day. There are massive volumes of text using this system to calculate "days" and "nights".
This really is no different than stating a "three day" festival today being Fri, Sat, Sun, which is typical and extremely common - even if the Festival starts Friday night and ends Sunday morning. Since we use the Gregorian calendar the festival is obviously not a full three days this means the event coordinators are liars right? The advertising should say 2.15 days, or "Friday 5pm to midnight Saturday midnight to 11:59, and Sunday midnight until 9am - but not a full three days."
Also if an event has open-hours like starting each day at 9am then closing at 9pm, they obviously they are lying to claim its "Three days" as in "Fri, Sat, Sunday" because it is clearly closed 12 hours each day and not a full three days but instead 36 hours. Liars all around.
