It will be interesting to see how this turns out.  I think WA State's income earners being about .5% means not many have to leave in order for the law to result in losses.

What I am most surprised by is how many people think someone making 1 million and One dollars will pay 99k in taxes on 9.9 marginal tax rate.

From MSM

"... Starbucks founder Howard Schultz
announced that he and his family
are moving from Seattle to Florida
the same day the tax was passed by lawmakers. ..."

That must be on principle, then, because it is not that difficult to create a zero income for tax purposes when you are rich.
But perhaps moving is cheaper than a good tax advisor.

The majority of the extremely wealthy have unrealized gains and not actual taxable income.  If the million+ is taxable income and not unrealized gains then it is cheaper to move than it is to pay lawyers to scam the IRS,  since there is no legal way to avoid the taxes.

Ah ok, here the Tax Authorities assume a certain return if you have made investments; you pay tax on that, even if you haven't sold anything.

The research in the run up to the bill, stated this would only affect 0.5% of Washington’s taxpayers. However, the reverse is true. Because it affects a few, it doesn’t take many leaving, to dramatically underfund all the spending they’re proposing to do with other people’s money.

Look I live here, so I am not a professional with firsthand talking crap experience, like some pretend to be.......

Which makes me wonder why they are wasting their vast know it all knowledge, on a cheap little motorcycle forum, instead of racking in MEGA wealth, with such talent?  Shocked

We have LOTS of millionaires on the island, and we have lots of professional tax professionals, who know how to get around all of it.

What they are doing is a slight of hand, making those folks who blame the rich for everything that is bad, and why they don't have, as cause, and that they are right to be mad, because life ain't fair, yada, yada, yada.... folk.

So they have these dupes, duped, and will soon enact a statewide income tax because they will say the millionaire taxes is just not covering all of their personal needs, er, I mean social programs.....

That door is open, and now they drive the bus through.  Embarrassed

You should see my property tax bill, you have the basic what it use to be tax based upon assessed value, a flat rate that even a public schooled numbskull like me could understand, but then they piled on bonds, use fees, taxes on taxes TAX, etc....

These add-ons have become a major expenditure and they just keep piling on more.

Currently they have a real slick scam they started a few years ago....

They take a percentage, pretty low, 1% or something, nothing that would get peoples dander up, to cover "your" health cost, if needed, someday, from your paycheck.

Its like a state run medical saving account that THEY KEEP control over and most likely raid as needed to borrow from, to campaign....

You put in 100 bucks, ten years later that is all the value is of that account, 100 bucks.....

So as you can see my chances are that I will be dead, when I finally have enough to purchase my sex change operation  :'(

100 bucks, 1% is like stooping to pick up a penny off the street, most folks just ignore it, and that is what they are counting on......

NOW multiply that by millions, and we are all of a sudden talking about some serious scratch.

True, chump change to what they rake in Minnesota fraud, but still  Lips Sealed

And guys, this is just a tip of the iceberg.

Seattle is broke, it was so beautiful, now so dirty and full of filth and crime.

We have lots of bridges up here over the water and rivers, and they have started to rust out and fall down.

The COVID gig drove the work force to remote, and it will never come back, and its costing the city more, and its spreading like a, er, virus..

I'm leaving, I don't see any real turn around soon, and it will only come at a huge cost, and that is "IF" we can even get the money to go where it was suppose to go.  Undecided

The system is broke, and sadly too many people here are so stupid, they don't even know when to come in out of the rain.....  Embarrassed
