MM, enjoy your ride. I think I will be riding a bit less these next few months because it appears summer has arrived in Houston. It is getting very hot.

By the way, my brother-in-law SuperDave really had a blast on the Hill Country ride. He already asked me if I would be willing to go back sometime in October. I told him that if I can, I am in. I'll keep you posted in case you are interested.

October you say  Undecided

There are warm days in October !  Smiley

A nice relaxing ride down the Natchez Trace on the first day , from Natchez to Kerrville on day two (full day)  ?   Then Reverse order back to Lynchburg .    That's four days plus Texas time visiting the Sisters .  Smiley

Yes , please keep me updated !!

How did the campground a Kerrville look ?   Are our cabins really washed away ?
......................................

Back to  the June 5th and 6th.  My neighbor that rides an old 1800cc Honda (not Goldwing) that has a car tire on the rear of it.    He's never been anywhere in the area of the Dragon so  today I asked him if he would like to take a two day ride.  He's been watching the U-tube Dragon rides.  Undecided

Hay Springman , that same neighbor might get an idea to Visit the Sisters in the fall ... if the Dragon works out "OK".   Wink

Hey MM.  I hope the Dragon treats you well.  If you get a wild hair and have an iron butt, it’s gunna be 2 long days from your neck of the woods to Kerrville.  You could stop in Houston and hang with me and Springman.  We have a couple extra guest bedrooms these empty nesters days.

I’m also tentatively planning another trip to the Hill Country in October.  Very tentative at this point.  Sounds like we’re all kind of tentative at this point.

It might be cool mornings in the Hill Country in October, but otherwise kinda ideal if it doesn’t rain.  Or it could hit 93°!  No telling.  lol  Shocked

Yep, all tentative for now and ThumperPaul is correct, weather really is unpredictable in this area.

The campground in Kerville looked fine, except for the cabins down by the river. The cabins are still standing but they have been gutted. I don't know if they are going to tear them down or just clean them out completely and rebuild them.

Will definitely keep you guys posted as to whether the October ride materializes or not.

Your right Paul , it's a little over 1000 miles from my house to Kerrville.

There are three free, running water, campgrounds along the Natchez Trace (each end and middle).
But the ride from the south end to Kerrville is a long one !  Tongue
So , stopping in Houston makes for three days of pleasure ridding and I'd have ridding buddy's for the third days ride !   Smiley

Hay , I have a Empty Nest Spare Room now too , in southern middle Tn for our community of folks and its nice to have company  .  Wink

October is a long way's off , but the following winter is going to be a Looonnng time of only short rides !  Grin

Hay B-Dawg , I'm glad I can be  back in the Game too .   There was a few days (after the second brain surgery) that I had my arms tied off so I couldn't touch around to feel what had happened that I was in the twilight zone and seeing the world in Black and White (like a 1940's movie).   Confused and More Confused just begins to describe  it !  Huh

But now 10 months later ... it's a New Normal ...  Wink

I am currently in Hiawassee, GA with family from Florida who rented a house for everybody in the family to come and vacation with them.

Yesterday we unloaded the bike and went for an afternoon ride.  The temperature was 49 when we got up and it was noon before we left - the wife gets cold just sitting no the back so we waited until the temperature got over 60....it did get up into the high 70's by 5PM.

We rode from Hiawassee down 75 to the north side of Helen, then on the Richard B. Russell Scenic Parkway, then Blood Mountain down and back, then up to Blairsville and Murphy on 129...then hit the "Curvy Roads" navigation button on the GPS for the final leg back to Hiawassee.

As we were headed from the Richard B Russell to the north side of Blood Mountain - the speed limit is 35mph even though the road is very wide and could easily be a 55mph speed limit.  A motorcycle rider coming towards us was tapping his hand on the top of his helmet as he came toward us and I figured that was his signal that there was trouble ahead.  Just a few seconds behind him was another motorcycle rider, and behind him was a Police car with the light and siren engaged.......we didn't see him get pulled over as they disappeared around a curve - but I suspect he was getting pulled over for speeding.  On our way back north after riding Blood Mountain both ways we saw the same Police car in a pull off area with 2 motorcycles pulled over and one of the riders leaning up against the front of the Police car and the officer interrogating him.

If you can avoid the cold and rainy days - this is a great time of year to be here.  The roads are pretty clear of RV's and campers as the tourists have not yet flooded the area - Helen which is normally clogged with slow walking tourists crossing the road only had about 10% of the pedestrians that it has in the peak summer season.

If you are headed down this way MM....the weather looks great if you can handled the chilly mornings (it is 49 again this morning - but will be in the middle 70's in the afternoon).

Enjoy Dave  Smiley

The guy I was taking with me has too big of a "Honey Do List"  so I'll just put off the ride too.

That's OK , I need to put on a new front tire and catch up a few other chores anyway .   Every week is warmer than the last one now !  Wink

This has never been on my "Bucket List" of things to do on the rides in Texas with Youzguyz.....but he did take some of the fellows to the Slime Bridge in the years before I started going to Texas.

I prefer a clean bike - one without slime or the debris that would be accumulated if you were to slide off the bridge!!!!

Haha!  There’s probably a couple dozen of those in the hill country right now with all the rain out there lately.  Bandera had about 3.5” of rain just last night.  Houston is just a swamp right now.  All the roads are basically bayous.  The air currents are crashing right on top of us.  I’ve run out of stuff I “want to do” in the garage.

Slime bridge can be very hazardous.  I wrote a "review" on google maps and included some pictures from a group ride I was on that illustrates this potential.

That was not the only ride I was on where a bike went down on that bridge.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Good to hear from you, Neal.  I didn’t realize it was just north of Canyon Lake.

Even the “real bikers” are staying off the roads today in the Bayou City - where the roads double as water tributaries.
