What really happens when : Taking a Sanity Ride Daily (at least four days a week) is not possible !  Shocked

Here it is  already the last of November and I haven't rode a bike since the middle of August .    That's the longest streak of no ridding for me in  50 years  .  Undecided    I don't wish such a thing on anybody.

So , What's  your longest NO RIDDING SPAN ?  and how did you deal with it ?  Smiley

I’ve had plenty of planned & unplanned layoffs , so maybe as many as 3 years ! We all know it’s not the duration of your layoff , it’s knowing in your heart that you are getting back on the bike. I am a lifetime student. For me nothing can replace the feeling , freedom ,behind some stupidly wide handlebars. Only compiled by the bike I ride  was built not bought , so I ride for the freedom with a heavy dose of pride. Hell yes I’ll ride again , it was never even a question !    Cool

Started riding in ‘66 on a Suzuki 150, sold in ‘69 and bought the Gold Star.  I had the period from ‘84-‘99 without a rideable bike.  I had sold SR500 when leaving Hawaii, still had my Gold Star, but it had developed a Couple of cracked drive gears for the magneto, so no go.  In ‘99 my son bought me the Savage for Fathers Day, and been riding since.

I was absolutely ate up with motorcycles in my youth - then when I moved to Cincinnati and started college I sold my motorcycles and began building a career.  That motorcycle void lasted from 1979 until 2009 when I bought a trials bike to ride around on my property - 30 years without a motorcycle!  I bought my Savage in 2011.

This year has not been good for getting a lot of seat time.  Early in the year it just rained and rained and rained in KY and all the places we like to go riding in TN/NC/GA.  Then Deb fell and broke her arm, and more recently it was a hip replacement for her - so I needed to stay home and tend to her during her recovery - and we had a few travel events that could not include a motorcycle.

My local rides were limited by home projects that had to be done, and my neighbor and I were only able to go riding for one weekend in Tellico Plains.

I am planning to have a much better year in 2026! Smiley

Thanks guys !  Smiley

I can't imagine going  3 years without taking a lap around the country block four or five times a week , much less 15 years or "heaven forbid 30 years"!   I'm looking at six months of no ridding and having a hard time with it .

I've never had a time in my life when I didn't have at least one bike ... most of the time I've had two or three .    I did have a few winter month while in college that I couldn't afford insurance for the car and the bike ... but it was winter anyway and I was struggling to keep my homework done up for those years most of the time.

Rutty , I need wide handle bars too.   My last Harley had 32" bars that were great, they made the weight  of the Sportster disappear with a grin !  I think it came to me with 29" bars ?    Wink
Lancer , I've often thought ... I should have got a new SR400 when I could have .   You had the SR500 for a while but there is not much chance of getting a new one of them ?   Lancer , you apparently have a Very Good Son !   Wink

Hay Dave , do we have a plan for a spring ride yet ?    I plan to start ridding the Interceptor in February .   It feels  a lot like the CB350 I had in my late teens so I think I'll get along with it good !   It only weights about 10-12 pounds more than my 350 Meteor so that's good too !

Right down to the pair of 18" tires (but with disk brakes) and twice the cc's. Wink

25Nm to 51Nm  Smiley   I believe the GS800 has more than both of these added together !  So be NICE when we're ridding the same loop !  Grin

It looks like the  the Honda GB500 I really wanted might get the twin 472cc Honda motor rather than a bored out 350 Single from the GB350 like Europe and Asia has . So I'll probably keep the Interceptor for quite a while.  Smiley

The riding in Kentucky has just been put on hold for the next 5 months! The roads are now covered with salt and I won't ride again until the spring rains have washed the salt off the roads.....motorcycles corrode horribly when they are exposed to salt.

I will spend time in the garage doing maintenance and upgrades to the motorcycles over the winter.

I have not started any planning on rides for next year yet - for this part of the country the reliable weather for riding really doesn't come until June......prior to that the weather is either cold or wet frequently and it is hard to find weather that allows for multiple day trips.

They often apply an excess amount of salt to melt snow.......using the motto that if if some is good - more is better!

At least now that I am retired I don't need to go out and drive in this crap every morning and evening with thousands of other drivers.  I can stay home if the weather is bad.

Here is a local parking lot photo from a couple years ago - that white stuff is not snow......it is dried salt!
