BBC may not be in 'safe hands'
under its chair,
says committee head

(Excerpts from different news stories)

Sir Robbie was appointed to the BBC board by the Conservative government in 2021, and has been accused of interfering in editorial decisions. He sits on the BBC board's editorial guidelines and standards committee (EGSC) alongside Shah, Davie and Thomson, who is the BBC's former chief operating officer.

The role of Sir Robbie, a former BBC senior editor and director of communications for Conservative Prime Minister Theresa May, is also expected to come under scrutiny.

Also giving evidence will be BBC chairman Samir Shah, who is under pressure for his handling of the affair, and fellow board members Sir Robbie Gibb and Caroline Thomson.

Michael Prescott - a former editorial adviser who raised concerns about BBC reporting, including Panorama's edit of a Donald Trump speech - will speak on the matter in public for the first time when he appears in front of a House of Commons committee.

An internal memo written by Prescott was leaked to the press, leading to the resignations of the BBC's director general and head of news earlier this month.

Prescott's memo also raised concerns about other "troubling matters" including "systemic problems" of bias in BBC Arabic's coverage of the Israel-Gaza war, and one-sided coverage of trans issues.

Conservative MP Caroline Dinenage, has said Davie's departure was "regrettable" but that "restoring trust in the corporation must come first".
She said: "The BBC Board must now begin the long process of rebuilding the corporation's reputation both at home and abroad, after the damage caused by what has become a seemingly constant stream of crises and missteps."

The head of the culture select committee has questioned whether the BBC board is in "safe hands" under its chair Samir Shah, describing his evidence to MPs on Monday as "wishy-washy".

Shah appeared in front of the Commons committee after a turbulent period for the BBC, which has seen its director general and head of news resign after claims of impartiality in its reporting.

Speaking to the BBC's World Tonight after the hearing, Dame Caroline Dinenage, the most senior MP on the committee, said she was concerned about a lack of "grip at the heart of BBC governance".

Wonder where this investigation is.

" ... Prescott stated that the BBC's coverage of several issues reflected systemic bias.

In particular he alleged that a 2024 episode of Panorama misled viewers in its depiction of a speech by President Donald Trump during the events of the January 6 United States Capitol attack.

Systematic bias was also alleged in the reporting of the Gaza war

and of transgender issues. ..."

FOX doesn't count.  For instance it has been asked on this forum why MSNBC won't let Alex Jones on the network, but no question as to why FOX isn't letting Hillary drop in.  FOX is obviously excluded from equal scrutiny.

Just like it's "abuse" and "unconstitutional" for X to ban people from their property, but not "abuse" and "unconstitutional" for Truth Social to ban people from their property.  Literally the exact same action, but the Constitution and "abuse" only applies to one.
