Can you post a picture?

I don't see the chunk of sealant ("floaty") as much of a threat.  It should be fairly soft so it shouldn't damage any of the gears in the primary or the transmission.  It can't really get into the pressurized portion of your oil system because it can't get through the suction strainer on your oil pump.  

What concerns me is that you can see the stuff in the bullseye. My observation has been that the sealant is on the inner side of the metal plate behind the clear plastic sight window. How did the sealant get between the metal plate and the clear plastic.  Is there a chance that the metal plate fell off?  That would concern me.  Can you still see the metal plate behind the clear plastic?

The white sealant often goes bad.  I just dig it out, clean the area well to remove the oil and get a surface sealant will stick to, and use a good RTV sealant (I use Suzukibond).  Be sure to give it adequate time to cure before you put oil back into the crankcase....leaving the cover off for a few days helps for better curing.
