I think the problem is that ideology blinds and paralyzes.
We are a maritime nation, and when piracy began off the coast of Africa, ships were not allowed to carry weapons, and military vessels were also not allowed to intervene, only to escort. As a result, piracy became profitable and grew explosively. Now pirates have become rich, and it has become impossible for ships to defend themselves against attacks with modern weapons.
Belgium has become a nacro-state through ideology. Yesterday, the newspapers reported that the prisons in Belgium are overflowing. And guess what? The vast majority of prisoners are illegal immigrants and migrants.
We just had an election, and the left won by a narrow majority. And they're focusing again on the environment (nitrogen and CO2), making house construction impossible again. The farmers are being forced to leave, and immigration is being eased, along with a whole host of other nonsensical policies. Apparently, the fact that there's a humongous housing shortage doesn't matter, nor does the fact that the country is struggling due to the problems of both illegal and legal influx.
The Netherlands is also in danger of becoming a Nacro-state, if it isn't already, because the newspapers are full of indications that this has already happened, with attacks, assassinations, and terror.
Long live ideology!

Let's bury our heads in the sand and pretend that drug cartels respect borders, laws, and human values.
And let's do our utmost to frustrate those who disagree.
Because that's what ideology looks like in practice.
