I'll take this opportunity to highlight the left's hysteria about the White House renovations. This way, we stay on topic.
It's very common for presidents to renovate the White House. The Democrats fear that after his term, Trump will leave tangible proof of his good policies that cannot be erased by narratives.
Here I go!
Major Renovations & Alterations at the White House
President Date/Period Key Changes George Washington ~1791-1800 Site chosen; building of what became the Executive Residence, designed by James Hoban.
John Adams 1800 First president to move in, even though construction was not fully complete.
James Madison 1814-1817 After British troops burned much of the White House during the War of 1812, Hoban rebuilt it; reopened ~1817.
James Monroe ~1824-1830 Added the South Portico (~1824) and later the North Portico (~1830), giving the building its familiar front façade.
Andrew Jackson 1830s Major re-furnishing and interior décor upgrades (he spent a large sum on new furniture).
Theodore Roosevelt 1902 Large modernization: interior re-work and creation of the West Wing for presidential offices.
William Howard Taft ~1909 Further expansion of the West Wing; development of what became the standard Oval Office.
Franklin D. Roosevelt 1942 Addition/expansion of the East Wing; increased staff/office space during WWII era.
Harry S. Truman 1948-1952 Massive reconstruction: the interior of the White House was largely gutted and rebuilt (only the exterior walls remained) to correct severe structural issues.
John F. Kennedy 1961-1962 Significant restoration & re-decoration led by First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy; redesign of the Rose Garden and state rooms.
Jimmy Carter 1979 Installation of solar-heating panels and first computer systems at the White House.
Bill Clinton 1993 Restoration and refurbishment of the Executive Mansion (main residence).
Barack Obama 2009 Added the Kitchen Garden on the South Lawn and updated other grounds/amenity features.
Donald Trump 2025 onward Announced construction of a new ~90,000 sq ft State Ballroom in the East Wing, estimated cost ~US$200 million, beginning Sept 2025.
Now $450,000,000 Twice the size of the WH itself Oh the glitter!
