Yo savages,
The vm36 offered by Murray's carbs -- does anyone know the jet sizes he provides? I need to step up my pilot jet, it's idling too lean, want to know where to start without pulling the jet.

What is the number on the pilot jet in the Murray carb ?
I assume he is using genuine Mikuni jets…hopefully.
Most of the VM carbs I have sold are setup initially with a #20, or occasionally a #17.5 pilot jet. I also include extra pilot jets, higher & lower, in case they are needed.
The same goes for main jets, my initial setup is with a #195 or #200 main, plus extras.

You’re going to make me find my old post about the Murray jetting….
Murray uses a 27 pilot jet (maybe it was 27.5…can’t remember exact increments for those jets) and a 165 main jet if I recall correctly. I never did understand how Lancer was using a 20. Lancer was also recommending a 180-200 main jet.
I ended up keeping the 27 pilot jet and bumping up from 165 to 200 main jet. So, I kinda mixed and matched these guys guidance. My idle was never a problem, but I was missing a lot of top end with the 165 main.
I think Lancer also recommends the middle grove for the clip on the needle. Murray had it at the 2nd groove from the top (leaner). I moved the clip to the middle groove.
Murray got all pissed off, offended, and defensive when I tried to discuss it with him. He said he used a dyno which I think was total BS. If he had, he would have posted a dyno chart to sell his genius.
I can’t remember exactly where I had the air fuel mix screw set with the 27, but it was in a normal range of 1.5 - 2.5 turns out. Have you tried adjusting it? You’ve been running and idling fine until now - I suspect your pilot jet is partially gummed up and dirty. The 27 should NOT be too small and lean.
In 20/20 hindsight, a 27 pilot and 190 main with the clip in the middle would have been better. The 200 main was a little too big with the dyna muffler.
