If you have a raptor petcock, and want to remove the tank, do you have to remove the petcock , or can you just remove the fuel line? Thanks!

I recall seeing a few posts on here saying that the petcock sometimes makes it difficult to lift up the back of the tank without scratching the paint on the frame. I've removed my tank several times with both the OEM petcock and the  raptor, which I have on now, without any trouble with either.

You do have to disconnect the electrical connector under the front of the tank for the lights in the speedo housing, and the speedometer drive cable. Disconnecting the speedo cable from the crankcase and leaving it attatched to the speedo housing is easier but it can be done either way.

My bike is a 2006 but I don't know if that makes any difference. I doubt it but I could be wrong.

The raptor petcock certainly makes it easier to remove the tank. The OEM petcock has the vacuum diaphragm 'bulge'. You can remove the tank without scratching the paint with the OEM petcock, but you first need to lift the front of the tank and disconnect the speedometer cable and panel lights connector. Then you can lift the whole tank, but you'll have to rotate it towards the right side to clear the frame and not scratch it. That can be tricky if there is any fuel sloshing around in there. The Raptor petcock is more forgiving, since it doesn't have the vacuum diaphragm housing. With that one, you can mostly just lift it up.
