As well as the Honda GFB350, I was at anevent yesterday where I saw a new Harley 350, but think it's a twin.

Neither are available in the States.  What do you think of them?

Harley is supposedly coming out with a bike under $6,000 available in the States within a year.  I think it'll be a flop.  They haven't shared any details.

The Honda looks ok, maybe some might think the Harley a little overdone. Possibly you could Google Harley Davidson NZ for a look, Same with Honda NZ

I read somewhere that the H/D x350 , x500 are made in China and are rebranded Benelli’s with some slightly different colors & graphics. I’ve seen several different versions of the Honda 350 single , all very Honda , all very retro. Haven’t seen anything other than an artist AI rendering of a 500 single. Only thing I hear is 2026 here. First choice would be a Honda then a RE , or a RE 650 , CFMoto  I just can’t see one in my garage or under the tree in the yard. In the meanwhile I’ll just ride my tracker , no rev limiters , no abs , no traction control , no fly by wire throttle a real cable to a real carburetor , just a simple motorcycle that makes me smile and will never sell.

The moto guzzi v7 has always caught my eye. It's actually a reasonably priced bike for what you get.

What are some concerns or negatives with it? I've read about electrical gremlins.

That Corsa is so very sharp.

Yeah you can’t even call the V7 retro , it simply hasn’t changed much. That’s the appeal of the bike , value & dependability.

I have several friends in the area that have recently bought Moto Guzzi bikes.  The "go fast" choice is the V100 Mondello, the other bike they buy is the V85TT for riding that is more directed toward travel.  Several of them have chosen the V85TT over their previous Stelvio as they are lighter and easier to hold up when stopped.

None of them have had any reliability issues with their Moto Guzzi bikes - but they are all stored indoors and these folks generally sell them after 4-5 years and get something else!

I can't help with many new bike recommendations. I started on dirt bikes, first on a Honda Elsinore 125, then a Yamaha 360 Enduro, back in the '70s. (That was after recovering from a bad collision on a Honda Dream 250 in 1970.) My street bikes have been a '72 Triumph TR6R, a '74 Honda CB750, a '94 Suzuki VX800, an '82 Kawasaki 750 twin, a couple of '82 Yamaha Virago 920s, an '02 Honda Shadow 1100, an '02 Moto Guzzi California EV, and my '02 Savage. Most of them were bought as basket cases, except the VX, the Shadow, and the Goose. The Guzzi was my favorite of them all, but I got old, got sciatica, and was afraid I'd drop it at a light or something. The seat height was just too high. I just acquired another basket case: an '85 Honda Nighthawk CB650sc. That'll be my entertainment this winter.  I like standards. My son is looking for a big single dual purpose that he can put fuel injection on. I personally think EFI might be a bit of overkill for a single, but he's going for it.

A more modern and capable cruiser?   I hate to say it but Harley-Davidson has one.    Shocked

Indian too.

But it sounds like you might be more interested in a bike NOT like ours.   Smiley

All the old sportsters up to when they rubber mounted the engine are good bikes , idk about anything newer than 2004. Solid , dependable mount and American Made. And like the Savage it can be made into what ever you want with an abundance of aftermarket parts. Buy one or build one , it’s a great bike.

I've had a V-7II and a V-9 Roamer Guzzi's , and found the Transmissions to less smooth than my Kobota Tractor , but everything else was great !   Smiley

The Triumph Speed 400 would be like ridding a more modern Savage, I think.  But the liquid cooling turns me off.  The 411cc Royal Enfield Himalayan with the 450+cc big bore kit would be what your asking fore.  Fuel injected and air cooled  with the performance CAM , performance might be a sizeable improvement over a stock Savage too. Wink

78mm being stock bore.

The Triumph 400 will not have the low end torque of the Savage and will need to be spun up a bit to get things done - although at 39.5 HP at 8,000 rpm it has the considerably more power than the 30 HP Savage.

I am not bothered by water cooling - in my car, motorcycle or tractor.  Even my zero turn lawnmower and emergency generator are water cooled!

Water cooling can contribute to a longer and more reliable lifespan - and you don't need to worry about overheating anything if you get stuck in traffic on a hot day.

Water pumps and cooling systems are far more reliable than they used to be.  The water pump on my Pontiac Vibe was still going strong at 200,000 miles - I did replace it and the serpentine belt as it just seemed that it was the proper thing to do at that many miles and 18 years of use.

However - if you like the vintage look of an air cooled bike....a radiator and cooling hoses does not help the looks.  Liquid cooling also adds some complexity and weight.

Hey there.
I'm curious since many of you have more than one bike. I like the size, weight, and overall reliability of our bike. I also appreciate the simplicity.
But I'd really like something with a bit more freeway capability, better brakes, much better suspension, just a tad taller (without being too top heavy), and EFI. What are some good bikes to consider that aren't overly heavy and outrageously expensive? I also prefer classic styling.
Triumph Bonnie?
RE?
Guzzi V7?

If you want a bike like ours, but more modern and capable, then it is not going to be a bike like ours, it will be something completely different Grin

I bought my Savage precisely because of what it is.  I have not changed it in any way.  All I have done is added a sidecar ( a friend did it for me ) which it handles with ease.  It was like it was built with a sidecar in mind.

A real laid back easy rider, love it for what it is Smiley
