You have to look carefully at the difference between digital currency and crypto. The Federal Reserve is only partly a government agency and is susceptible to NGO influence. And with the disappearance of cash... That's a lot of power over voters.
You do see a growing interweaving of government, tech companies, financial institutions, and behavioral data, so the technical infrastructure for social control is definitely in place.
The Constitution, public pressure, and a free media can still prevent a social control system, but the press is controlled by large corporations. The public is divided. So, all that's left is the Constitution.
Crypto, when used properly, offers a form of sovereignty, but it's no guarantee. True protection lies in transparent institutions, legal resilience, and a well-informed public.
