While the media spends days treating Trump’s Lake Ontario-to-“Lake America” tantrum like it’s a national emergency, Florida law enforcement just announced that 163 missing children were recovered during a five-day statewide operation.
Read that again: 163 children.
They ranged from infants to teenagers. Officials said many had experienced abuse, neglect, exploitation, exposure to criminal activity, and—in some cases—human trafficking.
And it exposes something ugly about our priorities: people are constantly told to fear immigrants, trans people, Muslims, Black communities, drag queens—basically anyone convenient for a political panic. Meanwhile, child exploitation is a real crisis that demands survivor-centered services, responsible reporting, accountability for abusers, and less conspiracy-theory performance.
The same news cycle has been flooded with coverage of Trump’s attempt to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America” in U.S. government usage—a move Canada is not required to recognize. Apparently a geographic branding stunt gets wall-to-wall oxygen, while 163 vulnerable children being located has to fight for public attention." Feminist-News.org
