Each one amazes me. How they did it back then. The evolution of new technologies quite literally moving us forward. I wish I was more into modern motorcycles. I wish someone would build something that interests me. The important part is I love the history of motorcycles. Thanks JC for posting the porn pics.

The sad thing is that so many owners do not appreciate them for what they are, many want to modify them. They spend a fortune, often giving them 12 volt electrics , electric starts, and indicators., in fact they do everything possible to convert them into a Suzuki Savage, which they could of bought for 10 % of what their conversions cost.

Fair enough, but owners do as they see fit to do, I am something of a purist myself. I have done little in the way of mods to my S40, I do like reading some of the posts about altering gear ratios by changing front and rear pulleys, and also the Wiseco piston mods. Some of Drag Bike Mikes posts are very interesting, however, I have niether the time, skill or money to do what he does. Both my 1929 Whippets are still six volt and no indicators. My 1937 Buick has had indicators added by previous owner, and I' glad of them, It's still on 6volt. My 1975 Jawa is stll 6volt.

S40's have been most probably produced in the hundreds of thousands, they are everywhere, whereas Velocettes for example are few and far between, they need preserving for future generations.

Just buy a Suzuki Savage and preserve the rarities.  And save yourself  a fortune in the process

Just ordered everything for brake job , then it gets new shoes(tires). Little by little she’s gonna replace my 2010 Ford Ranger. My grocery getter , run to the hardware store and/or dumps. Keep her local till she proves herself as road worthy. No fear as I have AAA Platinum road service !  Grin Grin Grin
