Ruttly, the 1913 BSA was ridden fifty to seventy miles at least, he was on a short route. It wasn't a dining room feature.

Just got back from a 2500 maybe 2700 km tour of NZ's Manawatu and East Coast of the North Island. Went to Vintage Car Club of NZ'S National Motorcycle Rally. Couldn't use Jawa so had to take S40. Took a few photos of old thumpers which I may post later. Saw some classic bike racing and lots of very twisty roads.

I don't have a clue what the prices are like in NZ, but prices in Australia seem to be high if this is anything to go by.

In the UK the bottom has fallen out of the market. There's loads of old blokes snuffing it or just can't manage any more, and there's a lack of interest in classic bikes from younger people.  Now is the time to buy a classic bike.

I troll eBay for BSA’s, and right now they are not selling at all.  Many have been listing there for months, and one for more than a year, maybe 2 +.  So I agree, there’s not much interest in classics at all.

On second thoughts after having watched the video from Australia again the asking prices seem a lot, but they are only the asking price, don't mean that they will get it.

When I look at all the people there  I can't see many if any youngsters. I would describe them as geriatric.
It would  not seem unreasonable to estimate that many / most will be dead within the next ten years.

I’m looking beyond the next decade, I may be moving slower than in the last decade but I’m Not ready to hang up the towel…and I still want to ride.
But that’s just me.

It is a niche market and prices have been elevated beyond their worth. Seems to have been that way for a while. Building one is a passion and very pricey , not a profit market unless real old or real rare. Now everyone thinks they can sell at top dollar after a full restoration. It ain’t gonna happen , we may be in a market reset on values. I’m always looking for bsa parts , barn finds. , Craigslist gems. Found a $350 sidecar- no chassis just body , looks like it would be fun to slide down a snowy hillside in. I’m only building my BSA 250 cause it came back home to me after 40+ years. Kinda couldn’t say no , if I had said no , I would have lost  the opportunity to knowingly dump a bucket of cash on a build  that  could  never even give the bucket back.  It has plugged up my garage , been a PIA and used up a ton of time  and money. My hands touch it everyday , I can already see what final version  will be.  That’s a Passion. A niche market for sure.

I think we are in a market reset on values.   I paid less for my 1956 Velocette than a new Royal Enfield 350 classic would have cost.
That said I think the market all motorcyles is a niche market nowadays.

Nope, was not me.
Which. 441 are you talking about ?
There are 4 or 5 on eBay right now, some super fine and others not as much.  Prices range
From $9500 down to $1500/2500.

JC , didn’t say I wouldn’t ride it. It would be in a climate controlled dining room rather than a cold damp garage. Where everyone’s eyes could appreciate my good tastes in motorcycles. Acceptable ?

Ruttly, I don't know what his storage facilities are, hopefully a warm dry garage, in your case it's probably better in a lounge or drawing room, with a pet litter oil collector underneath.
