The joy of aging.......NOT !
11/20/24 at 21:05:16

"I've fallen and can't get up" is too true. A few months ago, I decided to go for a walk in my 'rocker bottom' shoes. Stepped off a curb to cross the road and dropped to the asphalt like a bag of rocks, hurt my knee. Tried to get up and couldn't do it. No traffic, so called out to a passing stranger for a hand up.  Went home and threw those shoes in the trash.
This incident has been bugging me since then, so last night I tried an experiment to replicate it. Sat on the carpet, itself a pain, and guess what: couldn't move, couldn't get up. Slid over to the coffee table and using my elbows, lifted enough to get one foot under me and painfully managed to rise. That was scary. I don't know what muscles I'm missing, but I need to find out, fast.
I spent a lot on time on my bike this summer and never had a problem. Now, I'm getting paranoid about every step and any sense of being unbalanced.  I think I need to get to a gym......
Cheers!  Cool   ps: 81 in Feb.

Last time I was on a ladder and having been experiencing some difficulties, feeling unbalanced and the mess with my feet and all, I got a phone and laid it near the ladder. I figured if I crashed I could crawl to the phone and dial 911.
I Thought when I bought the bike I would be able to pick it up. Discovered that wasn't correct. The big dude I recruited was struggling, I had to help. The thing weighs about twenty pounds more than the Savage. But I guess it's balanced a lot different.
Discovering a Lack of ability in a place where you really don't expect it is unnerving, for sure. I know I don't get up the same way I used to. I gotta roll over, get on hands and knees and preferably get a hold of Something I can use to haul myself up.
Sound effects are included with every step of that process. Muttering usually follws.
I'll be seventy 12/23. If I make it, I'm Setting a record. No man in my family has lived to that age in at least three generations.

Bad hip(s) , bad shoulders , pain 24/7 , but I still push thru and go ride. Bicycle takes weight off my legs and I can really cover some miles. Tracker is not painful but somewhat less than comfy , 20 mile rides are regular.  The more exercise the more energy it gives me. Get up and do anything walk , ride , just keep moving. Sitting just causes me more pain , shake a leg !

Seeing this thread motivates me, a 24 year old, to exercise more and become overall healthier. so I can continue move at an older age.  3 motorcycle wrecks with some pain in me already I know I will need a little extra help. I heavy lift at the gym but I stopped doing body workouts such as pull ups and push ups years ago. Went to do a pull up last week. Wow. I lost the ability to do decent pull ups. Gonna start prioritizing cardio and body workouts come next year.... Heavy lifting can be damaging to the body so I will switch gears and cut back on the heavy stff.. I already cut back on my squats from 315lb to 275lb because I injured my back.

Never really did cardio but that will change.

Consistent cardio and body weight exercises as a priority for myself for here on out. Clean up my diet too. I gotta start jogging and stop when I physically can't. Jack LaLanne is certainly a good inspiration.

I am rambling on. I wish the best of luck to you all. For those who don't know, every cell phone in North America is required to be able to dial 911, even if there is no plan or SIM card. So if you have an old cell phone, put it on a charger low to the floor. A good cheap backup option for sure. I mean I would prefer just the cell phone in my pocket, but leaving one on charge is a good backup. It beats no backup.

Recovering from this surgery has been an adventure. I was in a non-weight bearing cast for 80 days. Just transitioned to a boot a couple days ago. Now the real work starts. Exercises/stretches 3-4 times a day. Slowly putting weight on this foot with its new plates and screws. I was relatively pain-free the last month or so in the cast. This is a new phase.

I still get down on the floor a lot; it's just the way I've always been. The dog is small and likes company. I have two granddaughters now. And I've always just kinda been a floor guy.

But getting up from the floor using only one leg at age 60 has been a challenge! Added to the sciatica in my "good" side, and a pretty bad shoulder on the right, the aches and pains are all too familiar. I have two ways I've been getting up from the floor. One way, I back up to the couch or a solid chair, reach my hands/arms behind me to the top of the seat and hoist up while pushing with the one good foot. The other way, I get on my hands and knees, push up with my fists while shoving the good leg under me, then continue up to the standing position. Both are rough on my bad shoulder. The crutches have been hard on the shoulder, too. But starting to use the surgerized foot has taken some pounding off the shoulder!

I'm really not complaining here. Some have it much worse than me.
Y'all hang in there! We're an interesting group of MC riders, for sure!

Oh, and I just found out at the last meeting with the surgeon I'm still not allowed to drive until he sees me again on 12/23. A few more weeks. Sheesh! This has been since 9/12!

What would make things easy for you is going on the Carnivore diet.

A year ago I was overweight, out of shape and a blood test showed that I was pre diabetic.     I did not fancy going blind or losing a foot and  knew I needed to make changes to my lifestyle in order reverse the damage I had done to myself.
I went on what's known as the carnivore diet, which basically means eating anything that's animal based.   I eat 8 eggs a day and lot's of bacon or any meat I fancy including fish. I lost 45lbs without even trying. I now weigh 160 lbs and consider that to be my ideal weight According to my doctor I  am no longer pre diabetic, my good cholesterol is up and my bad cholesterol is down, she is lost for words.

I do 35 push ups in the morning and and again in the evening.

Carnivore is like Keto on steroids, it has changed my life for the better.

I will be 70 on 4th of January.

I am slightly overweight. Been heavy lifting for years but got some fat on me. I am about 217 pounds and 6ft tall so I do not look fat though. I would love to get down to 190 or below and that's my goal.

I will start monitoring my sugar next year. Diabetes and what not runs in the family. I feel like I have a problem with low blood sugar. I don't know I never monitored it.

My problem is the alcohol. I absolutely love alcohol as an enthusiast. Very into craft beer. Beer is very caloric. 2 craft beers has more calories than a chicken breast. Not to mention the carbs.

It’s the fat time of the year , I do good till Halloween sets the holidays in motion. After Thanksgiving my willpower has gone till mid January. I gotta try everything , I have most of my bad habits in control but food during the holidays is too good to resist. I’ll gain ten but loose it in January. Egg nog is a genetic weakness in my family , it’s like ice cream you can drink.
