Well my ride to Bike week got rained out .   Tomorrow would have been the day to ride home and its predicted to be Cold and Wet !  So I'm glad I didn't go.

.................

The original tire on the Super Meter 650 had a little over 10k miles on it and didn't have enough miles left on it for a safe 2500 mile round trip to Daytona ... so I put a new tire on for the Bike Week Ride ... so ... I'm ready for what ever we do this summer now.
The RE-650's fuel millage had dropped down into the high 50's mpg (dirty filter ?) , so I ordered the DNA Air intake kit to open up the air-way and I got that put on today.  I expect an open air-way and warm weather will get me back into the 60's mpg again ?

Yall remember I converted to BELT DRIVE on the 650cc bike ?  So I'm locked into the gearing I have.  Well it feels like it's geared too low compared to ridding a Savage with the 25 tooth front pulley so in an effort to raise the gearing I put a taller rear tire on it while I had to get a new tire anyway.  That had the unintended result of raising the seat height a bit.
So , I ordered a pair of shorter shocks made for this bike from a place over in England (Hitchcock's)https://accessories.hitchcocksmotorcycles.com/accessory-shop/cylind
er-head/48439
It might have been cheaper to go to Florida for a week ?
But maybe the bike will handle better ?  Huh

I seriously doubt if our air filter can have much of an affect on mpg.  The fuel injection will adjust and keep the fuel/air mixture proper....even if you filter is a bit dirty.

What drives your speedometer/odometer?

If you are changing your gearing and/or tire size and the speedometer/odometer uses the rear wheel for the signal - then you may need to make some adjustment to the readings for miles per hour and miles ridden in your mpg calculations.  If the signal for the speedo is taken from the front wheel (or GPS), then changing the rear tire size or gearing won't have any affect on the readings.

Hay I found something about the Anti Lock Brake system.
Mine is Dual channel , the front and rear have to agree on how fast we're going.
Well , my front brake got to pulsing really bad as I got slower .  I thought the rotor was warped it was so bad.   So I put a new rotor and pads on $$$ didn't fix it.  Sad Sad Sad
What did fix it was I took the sensors (front and rear) out ... and ... Cleaned them.   The rear had it the worse , there was (for lack of a better term) a metal paste stuck to the end of the magnetic sensor.   I'm guessing here but it looked and felt like a mixture of metal particles , chain lube , and road grit , leave out the chain lube for the front.

So come oil change time I'll be removing the sensors for a cleaning.  Smiley

The taller tire was only 150/80-16  to  140/90-16 , and I wanted to lower it before , but now I HAVE to lower it !  Wink
That nice  BLESSED WIDE SEAT  seems to push the ground futher away !  Grin

Dave the speedometer was showing 62 when the GPS was showing 60 , so it's a step in the right direction !  Wink

 What drives your speedometer/odometer?

I think it's the front speed sensor but I don't know for sure ?

In warm weather I'm getting 200 miles on a tank full as the fuel light comes on and the 4 gallon tank still has a little less than a gallon left  so I'm still happy with it.
I put the DNA air intake thingie on it yesterday and took it for a ride today... Its plain that the air hole is different , I open it up in second gear and hit 50 just about as quick as I opened the throttle (I think this tank of fuel's millage might not be as good as it should be ?)  Huh

I'm still waiting on warm weather .

My place is one Short day away from the Dragon / Two Wheels of Suches area .   I have four recliners and one extra bed and lots of floor space to camp out on if we head east of middle TN. and there is near 200 acres to camp/park on.   The Rock House is still full of furniture.

I'd like to go west and spend a week looking around Moab Utah , I've never been in that area.   It's two days west of Lancers house.   But how many others would want to do a hand full of day rides in that area ?   Look on Utube.

Later in the year , I'd like to repeat this ride  :  https://sbba2024-61.webselfsite.net/home
It seems these folk are GREAT at putting rides together !    but then again who else is interested in a hand full of day rides in that area ?

If not this year then after more of us retire ?

I’m with Lancer…dates and location.

I’m surprised more members haven’t expressed interest.  “Build it and they will come”, I guess.  Right now the only members that are committed are Verslagen, Lancer, and MM Ranch.  The Texas gang is on the fence or doubtful (me, Springman, and Youzguyz).  Dave is going star gazing in West Texas and assisting border patrol.

Moab is like a 10+ day commitment.  Maybe, but dates?

South Dakota in late August sounds “cool” compared to 115° heat index in Houston around that time.

MM - Glad you got some new taller round tires!  Those short square tires are no good.  I blame winter blend gas for lower mpg.  I’m down about 10% for Nov-Feb.

Anybody have the weather crystal ball handy ?  Huh
