Get well Youzguyz!  I’ve thought about hitting you up and heading your way on a random ride in the Hill Country.  Life just kinda gets in the way sometimes.

I checked out a few of those routes in AZ using Google street view.  Just a few miles down each route were all pretty awesome!  Y’all keep brainstorming and I’ll keep following along.

Springman - I can hear the Hammer now doing 100+mph down I10 from Atlanta to Arizona on his Harley!

Will be glad to meet ya BabyDerp  !

Hopefully YouzGuyz and the Texas group can join us .  Wink

I completely forgot about Lynchburg! I need to come see the Jack Daniels Distillery. Well, I will add that stop to my notes. I was going to stop in Birmingham but Jack Daniels is a must. I've been through TN several times and never had the chance to go.

I am OK.  Just recovering from neck surgery and should be able to ride again in a couple of weeks.  It is just that I have to stay close to home.  Day rides out of San Antonio only.
If you want to go riding in this area sometime, just let me know.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Hay BabyDerp  we have a few nice rides in my neighborhood !  Forgive me if you already said and I missed it but , are you ridding a LS650 ?   I have two bikes one that can keep-up with a Savage and one that just runs nice !   Grin   Either one keeps up with the Cages on the back roads.

If you're used to flat ground ridding then I know where there are a lot of "Treets" to be found !  Wink
I need warm spells to ride much in winter , my bones get froze-up more than they used to but I like a mid winter putt putt ride just as much as anybody else !

If you want to wait for Spring before making a Lynchburg/middle TN visit that's OK too !

.........

One of the early Spring rides I'd done has been a trip down the Natchez Trace.  It's a long days ride from the hwy US-64 / Trace junction  going to the Southern campground.   There are three free running water campground on the Natchez Trace (each end and middle).,  The speed limit is mild (National Parkway) and the scenery is Great (No driveway connections) ... just right for that time of year.

Oh yeah it's gonna be late spring. Likely May... I'm leaving the country in less than 2 weeks for a sweet trip. Even so, it's too cold for me to ride that far. Yes I am on a S40.

Short Day Rides , is all I do this late in the year too.

I went to "Bike Week" in Daytona" one year and it was so nice on the way there.    On the way back I thought I was Freezing to Death.   I had on my Rain Suit with all the clothes I could fit under it and was still COLD !
Never again !   Grin
.................

I'm OK with the last of April.

I live in Mobile. an easy 500 miles from Daytona beach. I have never been. I have never really been a fan of large motorcycle gatherings like bike week. I'm sure I could make the ride just not worth it for me.

Yeah I gave up cold riding. I rode in the snow in Wisconsin and Indiana. Never again. I think 40 is my cut off for in-town riding. Maybe 50-55 for road trips. I have cold weather gear so some in-town riding 35-40 is very doable. But once you're out over an hour at highway speeds. NOPE.

I rode from Columbia SC to Pensacola FL just before Christmas, and when I left for the ride it was snowing.  It took me at least 12 hours, stopping every hour for a 30 minute warmup each stop.  I’m surprised I didn’t get frost bite in my fingers, face, etc.
I rode my ‘78 SR500.
It had frozen fingers as well, at least that’s what it claimed.

Huh

Seems like those SR Yamahas had personality ?
Grin

Sometimes I think I should have got one of the 400cc models while they were new .

But , sometimes I wish I'd kept my old CD175 Honda too ?   Smiley

...  Roll Eyes  ...

I don't know ... there were a couple of them I was glad to be rid of !   Smiley

I had a three Yamaha's - all of them ended with Alt. problems . I was glad to see them gone.  They all three had brush type alt's that burned out and new rotors cost more than the bikes were worth.
One of them an RD250 I put a  permanent magnet in place of the electro magnet and it work for non-headlight running but ran the battery down about 3 hours after dark.  Tongue
https://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/yamaha/yamaha_rd250%2074.htm

So not knowing if the SR series bikes had electro or permanent magnets is why I never got a SR400.

But all has turned out OK .

So , did the SR series have brushes (electro)  or Permanent Magnets ?
