Lights and horn but no power
08/14/24 at 16:05:50

I have a 2016 S40. I’ve been having issues with the engine cutting out so I was checking the terminals on the battery. The positive was loose. When I went to tighten it I hit metal and it sparked. Now my bike won’t start. All I have are headlights and the horn.
I checked the two main fuses and they are fine. Any idea on what else I can check?
I’ve had a frustrating year with this bike so far. Any help is
appreciated. Thanks.

I had a no start issue with my bike and no front lights.  It ended up being the connection on the left side of the frame under the front of the tank. Idk something to check.

Gotta check battery voltage. Inspect the battery connections. Did that spark cook anything?
The battery is pretty hard to get at. It made my life better when I put a pigtail on it and put the matching end on the charger.

If you're going back in there, pull the ground first
And connect it last.

Well, I feel like an ass. When I turned it on and didn’t see the neutral light I just didn’t bother trying to start it. Turns out my friend parked it in gear.
Ugh. I guess I can laugh at that and be thankful I don’t need to troubleshoot.

Last week my neighbor and I went to that ride at the Tail of the Dragon that was talked about in the 2024 Rides thread in the Cafe section.  We got caught in the rain a couple of times and the bikes were a mess.  His bike was nearly brand new and had 800 miles on it when we left for the trip....about 1,500 miles when we got home  He had to go to work the next morning - so I told him to drop the trailer and I would wash his bike for him.

I unloaded my bike easily - but I could not get his bike out of the wheel chock.  I pulled and bounced and yanked and it would not budge - it seemed the front tire was stuck in the chock.  I went and got some 6x6 wood blocks to put on the floor so I could stand on them and reach the floor easier - his bike is really tall and I cannot touch both feet to the floor.  Still I was just not having any luck and I was getting a bit worn out!

I walked away for a few minutes and then came back - turns out when I took the bike out of gear it came right out of the wheel chock!

I never park my bike in gear in the trailer - it just wasn't something I expected! Huh
