Exhaust wrap
08/12/24 at 19:57:16

So my bike has exhaust wrap on the header pipe. Is it really beneficial? It probably  helps contribute to the pop when I shut it down since it's holding in heat. Just wondering what you guys think

It won't contribute to the pop that would be lean jetting or loose header or muffler. Anyway I don't use wrap bc I've heard it causes the header to rust much faster.

I have a box of wrap I thought about putting on mine to cover up the blueing. Mine runs lean too but I removed the baffle. I think you need to rejet it. Got a rejet kit for mine waiting to go on once i get the wheels back.

Or, you could take your header to a hot-rod shop and have it ceramic coated, silver or black, never see blue again ! $60.00
Cheers!  Cool

Since opinions have been requested and we all have one…

I think exhaust pipe wrap is ugly, stupid, and offers no benefit.   Tongue

Holds heat in (I’m not an engineer, but that can’t be good).
Attracts and holds moisture - that can’t be good and promotes rust.
Did I mention it’s ugly?  Blued or rainbow colored pipes look cool.
Zipidachimp’s ceramic coating mod seems pretty cool.

Save the wrap for the engine compartment of a 427 where you might need to help shield some electrical wires or something.   Sad

Ceramic coating is bright, cheap and doesn't change with age, unlike myself, who is bright, cheap and does change with age !

Ok, so have 2 Savages, S40's on road I will add my take. On first bike I added a chrome VooDoo slash cut on stock header. They both blued out quickly. On second I installed a Delkevic muffler on stock header. Both had additional baffles in line, the VooDoo a deflection baffle at end of header  and an additional catalytic at end of muffler. Everything blued out through the entire system. The Delkevic had a catalytic at end of header and another at end of muffler. It turned a more golden patina rather than blue.

So I removed the chrome Voodoo muffler from the Savage and purchased a black one, and then took the header to a local ceramic coater and had them do the header black. 2 years down the road I am very happy with the look and how it has held up.

That said I had a black motor on my Savage, my S40 has a Crome motor so not sure how the black might look.

Nice.  The blacked out exhaust looks great!  I might even want to remove the chrome heat shield and paint it black to blend in.

The headlight you have is super cool!

What do you think about the Delkevic muffler?  Can you share a pic of it installed?  I was looking at those and curious.  I just installed the Dyna muffler.  Happy with it, but not married to it.

Agreed..

We had a guy some years ago who had a headlight that looked like he stole it off of a steam locomotive. It was cool as heck..too.
