New Voltmeter Recommendation
08/07/24 at 16:35:18

Hi guys, looking for a new voltage meter/voltmeter similar to the ancient one in this pic - it's probably been on there since 2005 and now is crapping out. I do like having one there, however, so any ideas of something similar in size and nature? Thanks.

Lookie here!  You can get 8 of 'em for $10.99.  Gotta be high quality!
Maybe you can get 8 weeks out of 8 of 'em!  Seems like almost everything is digital these days.  Good luck.

You might consider switching to the USB or cigarette lighter sockets that also have a voltmeter included.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut between the seat and the handlebars. Make sure yours isn't too tight or too loose.

Now I want a USB/Voltmeter combo gizmo!

Youzguyz - You said “ok”.  What’s not great about it?  Curious - when you’re cruising at say 50mph, what kind of voltage reading do you get (14.5ish)?  Have you compared its reading to a known good voltmeter/multimeter?

I only check my voltage periodically using the voltmeter probes connected to the battery tender/charger quick connect line(s).  But that doesn’t really let me see real world charging.  Mostly just a resting test.

The Savage likes 12.6V+.  It depends how accurate your 12ish is.  I assume that's resting voltage...

You should see at least 13.5V with the bike running and over 14V would be more ideal when cruising a steedy speed.

General Guide
Running: 13.5V+
Resting 100% charged: 12.6V+
Resting 75% charged: 12.4V
Resting 50% charged: 12.2V
Resting 25% charged: 12.0V

Do you ride often?  Do you use a trickle charger if you haven't ridden in 2-3 weeks?

This is a great little trickle charger for the price.  It has a desulfator mode (however that works).  I have 2 of them (one for each bike).
