Speedo with TRIP ODOMETER
05/02/24 at 19:23:09

I bought a used Intruder speedo and installed, checked calibration. Right on the MONEY I gots me a odometer! Wire harness and N light are plug and play as long as you buy the later Intruder speedo. Smiley

Pictures to follow as soon as I figure out how to post them.

Will install in bike tomorrow but I already checked the calibration. Same as the Savage. Cable is the same so I don't expect any issues. I may make a custom moulded gasket from silicone gasket but for now simple window moulding looks good enough. The N light is still green and I blacked the arrows out but the camera flash still shows them. I also matched the mileage on the odometer to the stock one so everything is cool with a sale etc.

Well it appears the market for used Intruder speedometers has just found a new group of buyers! Wink

Good find!

That’s awesome!  Plug and play straight out of the box!

How long did it take to match up the mileage?  Did you have to go like 20,000 miles using a high speed drill?  Huh

What year and model Intruder is that off of?

Speedo came off a 2000 Intruder, when you look for a speedo just look for one with a single green light for the blinkers. I believe its 98 - 2019. I opened the speedo and set the mileage(i used to work at a used car dealer) because the mileage was 30k. It was super cheap too 50 bucked shipped to my door. Most with low mileage was over 100-150 which isn't bad either but I was doing this as a experiment so I figured buy cheapest and if it didn't work out not a real big deal. Using a dremel to make the trip dial slot is the worst part of it and even that worked out great. Only took a few mins. Instead of making a huge slot I made it so half the dial is exposed so you can simply use your thumb to roll the mileage back.

The wiring is plug and play! I'm going to mount everything up today and go for a test ride so don't buy yet until I'm 100% sure no issues. I did use a drill to confirm the calibration was right and it matched the old Savage speedo exactly.

I also bought a set of used Progressive harley davidson air shocks 12 1/2 inch long that was part of the plan Odometer-Shock the Savage BUT the dam seller just tossed the 2 shock in a empty box without securing anything and the air lines broke off and dumped all the oil out of one of the shocks making them USELESS!

Will post back later as I must go to HF for more gloves before I do anything. LATER DOODS.... can't wait to go to the gas station and RESET THAT TRIP ODOMETER!

The ones from the earlier models will work too if you get the housing and light cluster with it and mount it on the fork crown. Those do require the drag bars and risers to clear the indicators and rewiring the indicator lights to work with the Savage though. GT750 tach cable is the right length to use as a speedometer cable with that swap.

Works great, only problem I had was connecting the cable. Because the intruder speedo sits a little higher in the tank pocket the cable end hits the tank so you can't attach it. So I simply bent the cable end to fit. BUT then you can't use the attachment nut so I used some electrical heat shrink and 2 cable ties to hold it in place. 1st I heat shrank it then add the cables ties. Another option would be to dent the tank with a ball peen hammer for clearance but there is a weld there and I didn't want to chance it.
