Well, that sucks!  'no crank'

Last good riding day of the year? Choke on, switch on, neutral light on, push button, nada.
Repeat, nada!
Roll bike into garage, fuses OK, battery 12.5v.
Try again, this time no neutral light, push button, neutral flashes.
Odd:  With emerg switch on or off, a push on the button still flashes the neutral light.
I've ridden this bike for 9 years, no problem.
Sealed battery is 2.5 yrs old.
Any ideas?
Cheers!  Cool

Check your grounds , battery connections , connections at starter relay & starter. Voltmeter on it then try to start it , see how much it drops and how long it takes to rebound after cranking. Sounds like a loose something.

Won't crank! silence! Ran well last week! I'll bring the battery home and put it on a better charger!
Q. why would the neutral light flash when the starter is punched?  And why even when the 'emerg stop' is on or off?

You should check the battery voltage with the starter button pushed.......it sounds like the battery has failed and cannot provide the needed voltage/current to operate the starter.  The neutral light is powered until you try to start.....then the voltage drops to nothing when you add a big load on the battery.

Batteries can fail in an instant....especially the AGM and gell batteries.

I thought about that when it happened, no other explanation is logical. I'll pull it today and get it checked.
Cheers!  Cool

Update: load test at my battery dealer, 10,9,7 volts, my battery is Toast, short of 3 years, cost $24/yr, $2/mo., lucky it happened at home!
With crap weather and getting crappier, insurance expiring in Nov, I'm off the road 'til April, when I'll be 80, with still the hunger for bikes!
Cheers!  Cool

people I've met think I'm nuts!  Local Craigslist has an '13 S40, 1600kms, $3000, tempting.

I am a “youthful” (😏) 74 with no intention or thought of stopping riding, so if you still wanna ride then by all means do so.
Ride safe dude.

The days where you ache all over don’t feel good , most would think I won’t ride today. That’s when I do a quick but at a relaxed mile on the mountain bike to get the blood pumping , then fire up the bike and ride. If it fits in the backpack  I ride for errands always want 1 hour seat time soon it will be 2.

That's similar mileage and the same price as the very clean 2012 I got last November.

I'd dearly love to survey anyone who bought a S40 in the last 1-2 years and ask if they had ever heard of 'suzui-savage.com'.
Cheers!  Cool
ps: they do hold their price!
