MM's new winter gear

I saw an advertisement showing the riding gear MM can use in the winter with his "shorty" helmet!

Leather is a wonderful material but it seems to bring out the dark side in some people.  Maybe because it's DEAD skin?

That thing is "DOT" approved isn't it ?   Huh

.....................

In a state with out helmet laws that should be a very popular item !!  Wink

I like it but don't think it would fit in my helmet :   I do have a thin-wool one really close to the same thing.
You know we don't get salt on our roads so I can ride year around.  It might surprise some folks to know how good a pair of Snow pants , a heated vest and gloves and a full face helmet with a scarf can feel on a 20 deg. day .  Smiley Smiley
For all practical proposes when I close the face shield down , its the same as closing the car door.
Think of those snow-mobile folks in -40 deg-f and how they dress.

Come to think of it ... I've got an old full face helmet with the lining gone that the leather helmet might fit under ?     Thanks Dave !  Grin

Hay , with a 1600's excursioner outfit and axe it would work for Halloween too !
Can't ya'll just hear me wearing such an outfit at the racecar rally and telling everyone : "Now stay in your lane ... or its OFF WITH THE HEAD ! "  Roll Eyes

OK....maybe I need to buy one of those leather faces!

Tonight we are going down to 9 degrees.
Sunday night 9 degrees, Monday night 8 degrees, Wednesday night 6 degrees....daytime highs are 18-25.

This winter thing has taken a while to get here - but it has arrived! Shocked

Hay ,

I put the Performance Cam in the 350 Meter (BlueBell) yesterday.   Today I went for a ride.
It was 40 deg. and sunny.
It seemed like the proper atire IMHO , should be :
Long johns
Jeans
Boots
Long sleeve "T" shirt
Leather Jacket (double breasted w/zipper sleeves and full neck collar.
Barclay face guard w/ear flaps and tuck into jacket flap.
Full face Helmet
and Heated Gloves.
The ride was so nice I didn't come home for an hour.  Smiley

I sure would have enjoyed that leather helmet !
but
I forgot about the wool military surplus one I have ...  Huh

.
After ridding the 650 Meteor around for a few days then getting back on the 350 Meteor left me thinking ... I might list it for sale in the spring for a top dollar price ... and see what pops up ?

Talking about leather helmets, during WWII, my grandpa lived outside of Cincinnati and rode a motorcycle (Indian, iirc) to his work at the Cincinnati Transit bus barn. This is his helmet.

A leather Helmet might feel good if I had to go outside right now , its 25f with a cold north wind and snow about an inch deep already.

This is Rare Weather for Southern Middle TN.  Smiley

Our winter took a while to arrive, too. But last week, it hit with a vengeance! We had "feels like" temps of -20 here in Denver. Stock show weather! Each year, the National Western Stock Show comes to town, and the weather typically greets everyone with an arctic blast. I haven't been our for a ride is waaaaayyyy too long.

So, daytime temps have been 58-62 here in Denver. In late January! I've been riding the bike to work, even though it's 27-28 in the morning. This is the first year I haven't put on my handlebar muffs. My battery powered heated gloves from the Amazon have been (almost) enough. I even put in the quilted winter liner to my jacket this morning.

I will say, the only way to go with temps in the 20's is a balaclava under the helmet. I've tried all sorts of variations on winter protection, and the balaclava wins. I wear Axial Block under layer pants beneath some cheap fleece lined pants I got at Costco. Leather boots. When I get to work, some 50 minutes later, I'm chilled at my finger tips and in the crook of my arms. I hate being cold, so I try really hard to not get cold.

They say the changing weather will be like this. Wild swings with more severe storms. The flooding in San Diego and warm temps here are just weird.
