It finally happened!
09/19/23 at 07:41:18

My muffler bearing gave out on me last night on the way home from work. All of a sudden my harmonious exhaust note went from slightly subdued to rather raucous. I spent all night looking for a muffler bearing for the S40, but it was impossible to find.  Cool

It was dark when I got home last night so did not even bother to try to look at it. I'm on the Honda today just to play it safe.

Enjoyed the tale !   Cool

In the time I had the second Savage , it went through two muffler bearings so I started making my own out of real steel.    Truth be told : both of them were Harley take-off so I'm not sure they even count as real parts ?

Undecided

I bet Harley builds all their mufflers on the cheap and I mean cheap. They know that’s the first oem parts that get shed and tossed in scrap steel bins in H/D dealerships nationwide probably worldwide. Good enough to get thru warranty , maybe.

They may not have actually been HD parts. If they didn't drip oil, well,,

Yep. This one is and HD muffler also. Thinking of possibly going with the Emgo shorty. MM, I think you said you've used the Emgo shorty, was it acceptable or too loud?

This is the 2nd HD muffler I burn out. I lost a third one taking a short cut through a bad neighborhood. It actually dropped off the bike as I was scooting along. I knew where I was so I just said bye, bye muffler and kept going. It was a very loud ride!!!

OoooYaaaa ,   Way tooooo LOUD ...

There was one of the Emgo mufflers that wasn't crazy loud  :  https://www.ebay.com/itm/334907282478?epid=171281058&hash=item4dfa07942e:g:ew...

I had one of these and it sounded great , nice and mellow not loud.   But the chrome didn't last long so I replaced it with a 12" shorty .   It was all down hill from there !

The one Lancer had on Rex , is the best sounding one I've seen heard ...   Smiley

The 12 shorty sounded good on the 883 Sportster I had but it was really loud on my Savage .    I don't understand why ?
