Riding position on RYCA cafe racer too aggressive
05/22/23 at 20:14:06

I love my bike, but the riding position is uncomfortable and hurts my back. I miss sitting upright, like on a regular cruiser. Is there an easy way to make riding a little more tolerable? Taller clip-ons? Reinstall risers and regular handlebar? Move foot pegs forward? I'm open to suggestions. Thanks! Smiley

the 1st thing you can try is stock handlebars.

Yazman , not much difference is the Ryca Cafe and the tracker , the seat and the bars. My tracker had 29” tracker bars and recently I put some 33” flat track bars on it , change was huge with the wider bars. So comfy , no reaching , no sore lower back. A Ryca is better suited for shorter people. The bars are Bikemaster Daytona bend comes in 7/8 & 1” . Bought another set for my SR500.

You could do my lower triple clamp mod and then place the clip-ons above the triple clamp. You would need to remove the lowering spacers in the forks, but the bike would have the same exact “stance” at rest. Moreover, you would regain an additional 2 inches of fork travel which would make the bike much more comfortable to ride. I suggest going the extra step and installing the GVE’s.

There are some clipons that raise it up.  Or go with handlebars, thats I what did.  Much more comfortable for just cruising.

But I gotta say, the stock bars on a Ryca setup would look pretty poo-putt.

What top triple do you have now?

Thanks for all the replies! I've included a pic of my current setup below. I have a $350 Amazon credit, so considering that, what would you order? I like the tracker bar idea--it still looks cool but sounds more comfortable. Or risers. I'm looking for the simplest way pretty much.

That will not work.  You need the stock bar clamps/risers or something equivalent.

Parts 7-16 (I think) on this diagram.  Hopefully, you have the OEM cushions under your covers as they are quite pricy.

If you have the cushions you should be able to use something like these if you can't source OEM parts:  https://www.amazon.com/KEMIMOTO-Handlebar-Harley-Sportster-Kawasaki/dp/B071RN...

Ah, I see. Bummer, yeah I'd have to go with the old handlebar mount. Unfortunately, all the wires and cables and shortened. I may just have to live with the aggressive riding position or sell/trade it. Thanks fellas!

What part of Ohio are you in?

I might be doing a cafe-style project with a 2006 s40  I've been sitting on for a few years.  I might be willing to trade some parts if you can live with your current bars for a little bit.

I might even do a trade on the bike if you are interested in going back to the cruiser.  The bike is mostly stock right now.  You can PM me if you want to kick some ideas around.

Yes , Moto what are you waiting for ? I would love to see you build another. Hell I still want to ride the first one. Get excited , get started , killer winter project. New seat and carb and mine will finally be finished , after how many years.

The easiest/cheapest way for you to make your handlebar setup more comfortable - is to put the stock risers on, install a set of low bars, and get or make cables that will work.  This really isn't very much work or expense to make it happen....it is less than a half days work once you get the parts in hand.

Thanks Dave!

I bought some cheap drag bars and risers from the jungle store. The bolt that goes through the risers was huge, so I couldn't use those metal tube things inside the rubber mounts. I just enlarged the stock holes and bolted it all up. Surprisingly, everything fits with no modification of wires/cables. It feels much better now! I think it still looks cool, like a cafe/tracker mashup or something.

Thanks again everyone!
