684cc. Successful shakedown run

Hey guys.
So my 1987 is back together after
-all starter gears breaking
- ruined cam journals
-ruined cam
-metal through the engine.

So I went and installed the 96.5mm wossner piston, dr650 cams with 2.5mm holes drilled.in the cam. Running a pod filter, straight exhaust and bigger jets. The cylinder base gasket failed 2 weeks ago. So I had to redo it all.

So far it runs great. 3rd gear makes it up to 100kmph. Haven't pushed it to full speed but it will likely go a fair bit higher than it did stock. It has more pull higher in the rev range now.

I'm still dialing in the carb and have an issue. Sometimes, not always, when going WOT in 2nd or 3rd it will stutter a couple of time as it's gaining speed, not when I first open the throttle.

Also, when idling at the lights, it will idle.smooth then occasionally the revs will drop slightly for a brief second then return to normal for 10nseconds before doing it again.

Maybe dirty carb issue ? I did rebuild it but it was sitting for months in a box. Maybe bad carb settings?

Other than that I'm very happy.

Nice work on the rebuild.

If the bike pulls well and sort of hangs or stutters, make sure you don't have a worn or sticky slide.  You won't be able to tune that away since it's a mechanical problem.

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't seem to hang as much as just sputter some times. The revs increase well when I accelerate and then it may sputter once or twice then continuing to climb.  The idle rpm drop makes me think it's a fuel delivery issue? I'm not sure. Maybe I'll do another rebuild and this time replace the slide.
