Wow !
I was watching and wondering : Even with time to think about "What to do" ... What could a person do with something "Flying at ya " like that ???
Don't we all play ...
"What If "
at every intersection we go through , with every car we meet on the Hwy. , with everybody that comes ripping up behind us ?
I'm drawing a blank with - A truck flying sideways at me , The only thing I see is :
drop it and duck behind it ... but ... I'm not sure
gravity
can work that fast ?

There is no time to respond, it’s only a moment to maybe see something happening but then it’s over.

Yeah, he didn't have time to Do anything. After watching it three times in a row, looks to me like that ladder hit him across the upper body, which explains the sling , I really can't get a fix on what trajectory that bumper is on. He's clearly in what is called an
UnEnviable position. If you've ever been there and had to go from

There is a split second where, at least for me, I have a
Am I really seeing what I think I'm seeing?
moment.
Then, once I know everything has gone to hell, then it's time to respond. And that dude didn't have any.
His situation would have required seeing that and reflexively seeing what is happening and dodging without accidentally actually intercepting something flying at him.
I'll bet that guy will replay that in his head when he goes to bed for a very long time.

Yea JOG !!!
Many years ago I had a 60 pound dog run out in front of my 165 pound motorcycle (Honda S-65). I still wake-up seeing the flash of dog darting out of the thick brush and into my path.
Did you know that on a gravel road - the gravel can act as "Marbles" to help a sliding body go father down the road ?

Well, yes, yes I do know that. And Those marbles aren't round. Some of them Stop rolling. And jam into the asphalt and stop, working as a tiny anchor, trying to Stop your slide, often removing pieces of flesh. This is a lesson not reserved for motorcycles. Kids in shorts on bicycles can learn that.

I agree. Once the reflex arc engages then completes it's initial response and you begin to respond "voluntarily" the physics in this type of event have already impacted your body.
