Its a private company. The problem is people thinking a private company has to act like a public service.

If my tax dollars were supporting it then it would be a bigger issue to me. But since it is the choice of a private company to run their business as they see fit and within the bounds of law, I have to assume they will act in their best interests which may not be my best interests.

How dare a private company run their company how they see fit.

It was Twitter's idea and implementation so yeah if Twitter is choosing to have the government, or anyone else they choose, to direct their content then as a private company they can do what they want with the things they own. Since they are a private business choosing to work with the US Government, not a public service.

If the US Government somehow restricted Twitter and attempted to shut them down/revoke licenses etc. to operate then it would be a different story. All kinds of companies work directly with the government, Twitter has chosen to do so.

Why shouldn't a private company be able to choose?

If Twitter was breaking the law by saying they won't let gay US citizens use their platform it would be different. It's like each situation is unique and not applicable equally to anything you don't agree with. Weird.
